Ford V8 Pilot 2 Door Coupe

I thought that I had seen most cars in my long motoring life, but a couple of days ago I saw a car that I do not recall ever seeing before.

It was a Ford V8 Pilot Coupe.  From the front it was easily identifiable as a Ford V8 Pilot of the 1950's era. But this was an open topped 2 door Coupe!

Never seen such a beast before. It appeared to be as originally built, i.e not a conversion and was in great condition apart from missing engine side covers on both sides. The V8 engine was fully visible and did not appear to have been altered in any way.

I took several pictures on my mobile phone but of course have no way of attaching them to this thread.  Have sent copies to V9 but unsure if he is around at the moment.

My question is this:-  Has anyone ever heard or seen of such a beast before?  Obviously there are details of the V8 sedan and the Shooting Break, a pick up truck, but no where are there details of the Coupe.  The obvious thought must be that it was a conversion, but the quality of the bodywork suggests otherwise!

Just realised that I have a spare E mail account that is not important to me, so if anyone is interested to have a look at the pictures of this Ford V8 Pilot Coupe contact me on ;-

brian.allinson1002@gmail.com - and I will send you the pictures.

I am really interested in the pedigree of this motor car. Is it genuine? I certainly have not seen one before, and would normally be suspicious,  but it looks so original!

The sound of that V8 as it gently burbled out of that car park was lovely.

It was in truly lovely condition apart from the missing engine side covers. But at least I was able to look at the engine and marvel at the two banks of 4 cylinders.  The nice thing was the complete absence of any "tarting up" it all looked genuine. Stupid thing was that I was so enthralled when looking at that lovely engineering I completely forgot to photograph the engine!

I am deeply endebted to Jill with a J for posting these!

I love classic cars, but I must say that looks really unbalanced! It reminds me of those awful Jag based wedding cars where the wheels never look right! However, it is clearly well loved, and anything out of the ordinary I can appreciate, even if I don't like it much!

I love that Doctors Coupe though, and that engine...terrific.

I like all the pics, but really I prefer the original 4/5 seater hard top

Starti,

Sadly because it was parked in a crowded car park, I couldn't get a true side on picture, so those taken from a front quarter  and also the one taken from a rear quarter give a false impression of balance. Actually it was really nicely proportioned.  It was in the patients area of the local doctors surgery and was certainly not one of the doctors cars.

Would love to track it down and get some better proportioned pictures!

Vic,  Thanks for the update!  Cars & helicopters have always been of major interest to me, and I wondered why I hadn't come across that one before.
