Drones

So Drones are having a bit of a bad press recently, but despite this I bought my preferred model in the January sales, a DJI Mavic Air.

My main hobby is walking and whilst out I like to record our walks with an ageing digital SLR.

When we were walking the "Broads" I thought the photographic capabilities of a good amateur Drone could come in quite useful, and my goodness I was not wrong, stunning still pictures and equally amazing video.

As a person who flew early model RC helicopters I am amazed at the ease and flight abilities of this Drone, it's a shame that as usual it's the few that seem to ruin it for the responsible many.

I really can see the attraction but as said its those irresponsible 'users' who spoil it. There have been cases recently of disturbance to wildlife, some rare and threatened species even being driven out of 'their' habitats.

Sorry if Im breaking forum rules, but this shows no knowledge at all.

That's exactly what the Drone shows on the screen, as well as gps coordinates, battery life, collision detection, air speed, attitude warning (the amount of tilt apllied by the Drone to fly in wind, if its too windy the Drone gived instruction for you to land via voice commands), etc.

They really are far more complex than I think you understand.

Honestly they are incredible bits of kit especially as I posted earlier, not that many years ago I flew Rc Helicopters, incredibly difficult to learn if at all.

I will if I actually take any, post the odd video next week to the You Tube link, I hope you enjoy the content.

No offence taken W&M but, although I have no knowledge of the workings of a drone, I have witnessed several breached of the law with these things.

Short Eared Owls driven off their hunting ground on a bitterly cold  evening after days of wind and rain, which could have left them without enough food to survive. Even when approached and the situation explained, he continued to disrupt the birds. Drones flown over children's play area until a few parents remonstrated with the pilot.

Just to clarify my comments were not directed at the registered professionals, but were intended to show that it could be difficult to abide by the laws in an urban area where the drone must be flown 50metres from private property and where other people take their leisure activities, such as buildings and people walking about or cycling.

Rocky summed it up quite well if there aren't enough police around it seems ok to flaunt the laws. Now that sounds like a familiar Caravan Forum opinion.

"The reality is there’s not enough to catch the real bad guys let alone those that infringe slightly. So we’ll still sleep safely๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜Š"

What about the fact the U.K. govt are in partnership with Amazon(prime air) to deliver parcels by Drones. I guess the (chicken little’s) will not see that as ironic to worry about a few small Drones but walk unconsciously into a sky full of huge drones carrying heavy packages. See below-

The UK Government has begun work with Amazon to look at the viability of using drone technology to deliver online orders.

Probably safer than the way some of those Amazon (plus other firms) drive their delivery vans around our estate.

Yes but they'll still drop your parcel on it's head! (I think...wink)

Better than on someone else's head Brue.

I read recently that the idea had been surpassed by Amazon offering delivery franchises to all and sundry at £10k per franchise and up to £300k per annum turnover. There was also talk of self destructing drones for bad weather. Look out below.
