I've been waiting for the water to warm up a little at my local fishery. I can't wait to cast the first rig of the new year. My local holds , Tench , Bream , Roach and Perch so theres plenty to go for, I catch on all types of bait including Maggots, Bread, Worm, Paste, Castor,Corn, and many more . I've been using a pole for the last 2 seasons but I really have'nt mastered it as yet.

Whats your favourite water ? what does it hold ? what fish are there? and what baits do you use? Oh and whats your best catch and what method do you use ?

It's becoming increasingly difficult to be 100% sure when determining species these days as many of the carp and closely related introduced cyprinids can hybridise, some even becoming capable of breeding themselves. Can make a 'mess' of claiming a record as you would need at best to collect a scale or two for DNA testing and that would be open to honesty. The only real way would be to kill the fish and have it weighed and verified as pure bred.

Course fishing sounds very Interesting, I've never tried it. .

. Where I come from it's all Fly fishing, ( Both Wet and Dry).  Choosing the best fly and casting into likely areas on the river while wading upstream takes a lot of concentration and effort to bag a few Brown trout.

I must have a go at Course fishing though, it looks so relaxing.

Fishing's a bit up and down lately , think this is due to unsettled weather. Had some really good catches in the 20s , but had some blanks as well.

Fishing's been very good at my local pond. Grandson and myself have bagged  up a few times with Roach, Rudd, Tench and Bream , weights in the 20s and 30s. How have you done ?

HH some of our local ponds developed a virus from people not cleaning their equipment so my OH and pals have been fishing further away. Lots of new members have joined their club this year and they are about to take on some new waters. Good to hear you are enjoying your fishing. smile

I used to course fish, years ago and really enjoyed it. I then discovered golf. Time constraints dictated that it was one or the other. Golf won. I’d always envisaged a time when I could do both. Now I’m retired, I have the time. The thing is, I’m concerned as to whether or not it’s causing distress to the fish, being hooked and pulled in? I make no judgement, it’s just a concern.

I think many anglers look at the condition of the fish they are catching and in turn this helps conservation on rivers etc. The clubs work hand in hand with LEAs. Personally I don't like the idea of overfed fish in ponds but as I'm not an angler I can't stand in judgement either.

We are both enjoying the Whitehead and Mortimer Go Fishing programme on Friday evenings.
