I can't see the original sticky so will start a new thread.  Saw nearly 30,000 knot on Breydon Water yesterday.  Great weekend at Minsmere, Otter, Kingfishers, Bitterns, lots of Marsh Harriers

Last day here and back on the bikes so only intermittent birding. We did spend about 5 minutes watching a reeling Grasshopper Warbler.

Tonight on our stroll from sits we saw a Fieldfare in all his breeding plummage and couldn't find the Little Owl that seems to be on the other side of the campsite hedge by our caravan. We can hear him but can't find him!

I'm sure I heard our first Cuckoo today by Loch Lomond, but the call was only for a short while and not repeated. Then I thought that I spotted a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, but reading up on them they're not supposed to be present in Scotland, so I'm not sure now.

  • Bumped into a fellow member on season shakedown to Slimbridge today.

interesting  spot was a crane nesting within 30metres of the Rushy hide and two mediteraenian gull nests on south lake. This is a first for slimbridge. Plenty of chicks around including the less than attractive Morehen chicks, but so endearing.

Nell we saw a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker on the West Coast last year.

Looks like someone will have to update the bird register then. I suppose I could contact RSPB Scotland and ask them what the situation is.

They have been reported periodically since 2002.  There was a confirmed sighting in the Shetlands in 2012. They are not uncommon in SE England.

I was just setting out with Flyte after we had arrived at the Clachan site and was fortunate enough to see a Red Squirrel.laughing

There's a bird feeder in front of our van and as well as the usual suspects there were 3 or 4 Siskins feeding, and there's been a woodpecker hammering away most of the evening, although I've not spotted it yet.

Visited Bwlch Nant yr Arian near Aberystwyth to see the Red Kites feeding. What a beautiful sight. Took some photos, but it's not the same as experiencing it.

Will have to edit and crop more pictures before I can add more, so just 2 for now.
