The shooting of endangered wild game birds should stop now.

Furthermore, the use of lead shot needs a total ban right away. Even when this is not directly killing and maiming target animals, this toxic material is sprayed across the countryside littering and killing all manner of wild creatures through ingestion and the poisoning of the environment. This is leading to infertility and, in many cases a slow and painful death for many animals!

Here we go again. Some wet behind the ears "armchair environmentalist" trying to whip up support for a stupid, divisive, and totally unscientific cause.  Leave us country people alone and concentrate on the bigger issues.

Not at all, the key words for me are 'endangered' and 'threatened' species!  I don't advocate a total ban at all on shooting.

As far as lead shot is concerned, I do stand by that suggestion of a total ban! Afterall it's illegal to use for us fishermen (except in micro form) and we still manage to continue our hobby. We also don't target endangered species to my knowledge. The vast majority of my catch is returned fighting fit, thanks to the adoption of barbless hooks, the few I do 'take' are always stocked non indigenous species (Rainbow Trout) and then eaten. I'd rather catch and dispatch these myself than buy from the supermarket! Oh, and I am also one of those country folk and since retirement, I do spend a little more time in my armchair!

Another 'us Country folk' here, not everyone who lives away from Citys hunt/shoot/fish, some of us sit cheek by jowl with the wildlife without needing to kill them.

Not strictly on topic but in terms of compassion I cannot believe how fox hunting is banned yet the barbaric sport of bull fighting continues. Evidently, in Spain they value tradition and sport more highly than humanity.

Yes, it doesn't 'sit' well does it! However, let's take things one step at a time! Bull fighting, cock fighting and even hare coursing are banned here in England but with regard to the latter it still happens, particularly around Lincolnshire! The thing is that most of these criminals come here from all around Britain to carry out this so called 'sport'!
