Tour de France

Well, the Criterium du Dauphine is over and Chris Froome won it again. In the past, this has led to him winning the biggest of the Grand Tours.

So it's time to place your bets.

I'm going to get in early and go for someone who avoided the Dauphine and, as is the (sad) custom of today the Giro, as preparation for LeTour.

I'm going for Nairo Quintana.

I believe that no Columbian has won the Tour before (although several stages have been won by them). He isn't the greatest of time triallers, but I'm going to chose him anyway.

Any more takers?

I thought the TDF was a bike race. Froome abandoned his bike and sprinted towards the finish. Must have thought it was a triathlon.Happy

Not in keeping with the spirit of Le Tour - A bit disappointing.Frown

So, if you puncture at a crucial stage, that's just bad luck. If you go over the edge of a cliff due to no barriers.....your problem. Your handlebars snag on a bag being irresponsibly held out by a spectator......just get back on your bike and carry on. A policeman steps out onto the finish line to take a photo and ends your final sprint hopes......and your career.......tough!

But if Chris Froome gets held up by a spectator incident.......the end of the race is neutralised. Against the published race rules.

Disgaceful!

I agree.......but that's still no reason to change the rules for some and not for others.

We were at Le Tour, today, on the climb to the finish. Total shambles, who on earth is organising this event? At least the 1K kite didn't collapse on the riders again.

We were on the D2 near Gordes, north east of Cavaillon - well before the accident.  Here are some photos:

Apart from the shambles and the final decision by the Race Commissars, it was a leading up to a great finish. Thomas de Gendt deserved his win and the Polkadot Jersey. The break by Froome, Porte and Mollema looked as if they'd got clean away and were putting quite a lot of time into the other GC contenders. Porte seems to be back to his best and should really be up to or ahead of TeeJay on time now. Can any of them pull back time on tomorrows Time Trial?

What a disgraceful day for cycling, utterly shambolic.

i am at a loss to know what the race organisers could have done regarding the result. They clearly share the bulk of the responsibility for the incident In allowing it to happen.

The best thing for the race and Chris Froone is for Froome to now distance Quintana and Yates by more than the 53s deficit he had on Yates as he crossed the line. That way, at least for Froome he can demonstrate he would have won anyway.

But a crap day for cycling.

So K I wonder if your view would be the same if a Scottish rider was involved!

Each year rhe crowds on the hills are getting worse and obviously some form of crowd control and motorcycle control will be needed.
