Tour de France

Well, the Criterium du Dauphine is over and Chris Froome won it again. In the past, this has led to him winning the biggest of the Grand Tours.

So it's time to place your bets.

I'm going to get in early and go for someone who avoided the Dauphine and, as is the (sad) custom of today the Giro, as preparation for LeTour.

I'm going for Nairo Quintana.

I believe that no Columbian has won the Tour before (although several stages have been won by them). He isn't the greatest of time triallers, but I'm going to chose him anyway.

Any more takers?

WiFi, at last! We're at Bédoin, very busy, very windy. Walked up the Ventoux on Monday, so any motorhomes already there, a long time to wait on the side of the road, but, each to their own. Hope Le Tour livens up, it needs to, maybe tomorrow....

Sorry, Pliers, missed out your rider - Kittel.

Don't actually remember tipping Kittel for a Tour victory! Think I just said I'm glad to see him back in action after an awful season last year. But, he's still in the race, looks gorgeous, so I'll stick with him

We've driven today along part of the route in the Ardeche, which they ride on Friday, and it's amazing just how many motorhomes, caravans and tents, already parked in every wide bit of road!  Almost everyone has a satellite dish, so I imagine they sit watching the TV until they hear the horns of the cars, and then rush out, watch them all pass, and then back in to watch the remaining kilometres on the TV.

I think we will sit and watch it on the large screen TV in the campsite  bar, rather than run the gauntlet of traffic to try and get anywhere nearer!

Another good win for Sagan. Froome also did a great job of gaini g more time. No doubt completely against Sky team orders......excellent!

Great shame that they cannot race up Ventoux tomorrow, high winds mean they can only go about half way. So my man may have lost his chance to pull back some time Sad

IanH, Don't know what it is you have against a team that tried to fracture the opposition, as Sky did today. Perhaps it that your choise of winner is not in that team!!Wink Where were Movistar when the final break happened. Fast asleep, as they appear to have been for the most of the race up to now, or are they just playing a waiting game?

Went to see the Tour de France today.  It was past us in a flash, but the pre 'Caravan' was interesting where various advertising vehicles threw out bits and bobs ranging from key rings to shopping bag to sweets and even small cakes etc.  We almost got hosed with water from one of the Vittel floats!  I was a bit worried at what might be thrown at us when a float with a chicken on top passed us (thinking rotten eggs!)  I took a few photos - can't put them up at the moment though - maybe later.

They are not going to the top of Mt Ventoux today - apparently it's too windy to ride.  They're stopping about 6km from the top.

....just heard that apparently there has been a crash today.  Must have been after we saw the bikes go by... Crisp Froome still holds on to lead though.

I don't usually look on here until I've watched the highlights, but as the story was quite high up on the BBC News website, I couldn't avoid it. Looking forward to 7pm tonight!
