The Yorkshire Dales National Park was extended today, to take over a chunk of Cumbria......and a bit of Lancashire. The nice bit, obviously.....

(Is there a nice bit? Undecided)

Yes, good news all round, although I hope they don't fill this bit chock full of sheep as well!

The Alpamare Pool Complex opened in Scarborough a couple of days ago as well, in North Bay. At long last, used to love the old outdoor lido it replaced, had some good fun in there down the years!Happy

No, once wrangling over whether or not to erect a nuclear time mob in Somerset is settled, and then digging up half of country to save 5 minutes on train time to London is decided, they might get round to selling off Yorkshire. It'll not go without a fight though, Pilgrimage of Grace will look like a tea party in comparison!WinkHappy

Blue and white flag,5.3 million people and a distinctive accent and our own "day" - Sturgonia?Nope -Yorkshire! If they let us annex the Scots as well then they might not need their second referendum. What do you think TDA?

Whoa, steady on now, Cumbria is Cumbria, Yorkshire is Yorkshire, the area is part of the National park-they ain't Yorkshire folk. Let it happen once & the whole Country will want in. . . .The United Kingdom of Yorkshire, really?, NO!!!. Being Yorkshire Folk is a state of mind not a land grab. No offenceHappy

Fair point Rocky. I guess those people living there will have to be content to be in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, even though they cannot be given true Yorkshire status.

This may come as a bitter disappointment to them though......

Ian, rest assured I've contacted the Dales Authority & informed them of the potential anguish & disappointment the Cumbrians will suffer. After the initial excitement of being in an area that carries the name Yorkshire, to then find out they cannot actually claim Yorkshirehood will be a crushing blow. Counselling is available I'm told. It's sad but trueDon't cry

Have to admit .... I am hugely disappointed Sad  Was hoping they'd extend the National Park boundary further into Cumbria to join the Lake District.  Would have put the value of our property up Smile  As I'm married to a Yorkie .... should have been able to claim Yorkshirehood Laughing
