Words that I dislike

I dislike the overuse of the word 'absolutely' on the television, when uttering 'yes' would suffice.

DaveFL2. Thanks for highlighting that, because I have just realised that I have been falling into that trap.  Will try to work out of it in future!  Abs.....  See I nearly did it again.

Actually it's three words isn't it Admiral, but only the first and last would be permitted on CT!

"Excellent" and "Brilliant" are also overused in much the same way.

Not specifically a word, but still irritating to me at least, when did weather forecasters start saying "in the overnight period" rather than ...er..."overnight"? 

Just lately the BBC news are using the word "quid" instead of "pound"

I was once advised that bath does not contain an 'r'.  Next thing we know there will be a claim that 'Geordie' is received pronunciation.

Hmmm - won't rise to the bait 

However the southern-based "received pronunciation" doesn't stop them putting an extra "r" in drawing does it?

At least those lovely Geordies don't irritate me by saying "drawring" !!  That is definitely not well received pronunciation here at Bugs Towers in deepest Northumbria!!
