What does the Term "Hash Tag mean?

Sorry but I'm an old dog now and I am having a real problem with some new words etc.

Like what does the term "Hash Tag" this and that mean? I know what the hash tag button on my phone does, -sometimes messages ask me to press it etc, but noways people keep using it in conversation & I don't know what they mean.

Then Sarah Cox (Grrr) keeps on about a "Half Wower" - whats that all about?  And that bloke in the afternoon he's always on about Serious Jokin!  Is that about Jokes? but they dont seem funny, but if thats not it, what is it?

A reasonable command of the English language used to be a matter of some pride to me, but I think I'm losing the plot now. I just don't understand some of it, and the above are just some!

By the way, I never use hashtags on Twitter or Instagram.  Why on earth would I want people I've never heard of from across the globe to see my posts by searching on a hashtag? Having said that, these sites will still group your posts in search results regardless Frown

So we got there Laughing

One thing is sure - if the older generation start using it in conversation it will soon stop being used

The # sign is a 'sharp' in music.  It was a sharp centuries before it was a hashtag.  Ask any musician.....

Brian......6 Music is a digital station, not available on FM.....so you need a DAB radio.

I think TF may find it hard to pick up 6 music on his "cats whisker" receiver Wink

half wower = 1/2 hour of wasted time listening to Sarah Cox's terrible choice in music (hate it when she is on Radio 2)

serious jockin' (no 'g') = another waste of 1/2 hour of time listening to Steve Wright's choice of music.  Actually stands for serious disc jockying (DJ) - a half hour of specially selected music in preparation for the weekend

Much as I like Radio 2 I can't stand either of these two items and usually switch over at this point.    I do however love the All Request Friday with Simon Mayo

My sentiments entirely Moonstone, though S Cox isn't quite as irritating as the person she stands in for.Yell
