So, I call into Tesco petrol station this morning. A big queue in the shop waiting to pay. I'll use the pre-pay machine thingy, says I. I insert my club card (twice as the first time wasn't accepted) and then insert my credit card. Won't accept it! Try again. Still won't accept it. Try a different card. Still no luck. So abandon that idea and press the Pay in Shop button. Get to till and ask why the machine wouldn't accept card and am informed that they new system doesn't accept any of the regular bank cards, such as Nationwide, Santander, Nat. West, Amex but only sometimes and then sometimes they do, and indeed they did only 2 weeks ago at the same machine!

What have Tesco's done about it I ask? Nothing came the reply, it's up to the clearing banks to sort it out was their explanation.

Why not put a notice up then, informing customers which cards may be rejected? Because sometimes they are accepted came the reply.

Sometimes you just have to shake your head and move on.

At least, Brian, you can pretend they would be laughing if only they could.

I have suggested to Tesco that their self service till are at least equipped with holograms of a friendly face that will smile when you wait for the sigh of exasperation  from the "human"when they arrive after my yet again failure to understand "unidentified object in packing area"yell

Redface,

The  only  one  laughing  at  the  Tesco Extra  in  Crewe  is  the  plonker  who  had  the  A T Ms  installed  in  the  darkest  part  of  the  ground floor covered car park  --  not  a  place  I'd  fancy  getting  a  few  quid  on  any  late  night  outing  !

Previously, it was pointless for me to get cash from ATMs because all my payments were by card but that has changed, now that I'm staying on a CL and have to pay the site fees in cash.

Can't you pay them by bank transfer? You would not have to locate the owner then, you could just transfer the appropriate amount every week. It might seem silly, as I use all other types of computer banking, but don't like ATM's.
