The new £5 Note!

Well what do you think?  Ive had four in general use (Change) now.  Quite like them really, but I think they are feeling a bit thin and flimsy, and consider that they would have felt better if they had been made to feel a bit more substantial, however I understand that they are actually much stronger than the old paper ones.  IMHO, The colour is  a bit  weak, so wish they had been produced a bit richer in that respect. However despite those reservations, we had better get used to them pretty quick because the old ones cease to be legal tender in May next year, - not that far ahead, so it is quite clear that the forthcoming change over will be very quick.  The £10 and £20 will follow on quite soon thereafter.

I haven’t seen any yet. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of £5 notes in circulation. ATM’s that give out £5 notes are very rare and that’s where I get cash from.

I know they are out there somewhere. But haven't received one or seen one , as for cash machines , I'm sure I read somewhere that it will be a rather long time before machines are changed over,

I wonder how many are holding on to them Undecided as they did with all new coins.  My hubby have saved all his £2 coins , first cashed in with £1,500 and many hundreds at intervals since Smile

What!- the old white fivers are of no more use?

Better get them out from under the bed then and spend them!

Strange, the issue does seem very patchy. My local convenience store (Co-op) apparently had a pack of 250 on the first day and have been issuing  in general change ever since.

As I said the final day for the old fiver is only next May which is a short period compared with other new notes in the past. So don't fret you'll be getting them soon!

On ebay today apparently they are asking for a starting bid of £200 For a low serial number £5 note , also the Bank of England are holding an auction day for low serial numbered notes that they have held back

Saw one today in our village shop, in fact it was the only one in the till and we all had a look at it, I thought it was quite a bright colour.

I hear the Bof E wants us to say goodbye to the penny, would you miss that? Are you like me, I put most small change in a savings jar.Smile
