Noticed today that the pay and display charge to park all day (11hours) at the side of the road on Marine Drive in Brighton (at the end nearest to the pier) is £16!!

Is this a record?

Much of a council's income comes from parking charges. If anybody thinks that a particular council is overcharging then the answer is straight forward. --Dont go there. There are other towns where you can shop and spend your hard earned money.

We were in Oban last week and couldn't find 'cheap' parking but was told to park up in Aldi. Checked it out - no parking notices, no gates/barriers etc and while driving round, stopped and asked 2 people who had parked and were walking out towards town. Apparently its regularly done! Tesco down the road have cameras and 2 hr limits. Agree with cyberyacht - hate paying to park on roads that I have already paid to be on!

The car park in Worthing town centre at Liverpool Gardens cost 50 pence for half an hour and you pay at exit. If you go over half an hour the price goes up to £1.10 and then there's an increasing scale of charges for longer periods of time.

You can get free parking if you park further away than the Burlington hotel but it's a long walk to the town centre from there, that's if you can find a space!

We parked on the sea front at Worthing. It cost £1 per hour. If we had parked on the adjacent side road (Stein Gardens?) it was £1.20 per hour.

We parked on Eastbourne sea front today for £1 per hour.

Most places in Frnce it is free.

Write your comments here...You were lucky to find a space, Ian. Everytime I pass by the sea front, all the parking spaces are taken. Incidentally, the Italian restaurant Brio is on the corner between the Steyne and Marine Parade and we always have difficulty parking there. I use the loading bay outside Chatsworth Hotel as I can never find anywhere to park.

Thank goodness for OAP bus passes. Saves a lot on fuel bills and parking charges.

Write your comments here...I seem to be seeing double, redface and it's not because of inebriation!

Using an OAP bus pass is not an option for me unless the customers want their food cold!
