New Logo

Having seen various comments about the need for the name change, I've seen nothing about the safety aspects of the new signage. Have just returned from our first visit to a Club site since the change and discovered that the new signs/logo are almost unreadable from any distance on a busy road. The entrance to the Cirencester site is off a busy road down a lane which serves several facilities. Although we know the area, the entrance is one of three quite close together so I was approaching it carefully to make sure of the right one.

We saw a 'familiar' green sign and headed for it; fortunately it was the right entrance but the wrong sign. The CC sign was on the same post but almost indistinguishable with the tiny nonsensical logo and small lettering. Had we not known the area and seen the other sign we could have missed it.

Does anyone actually road test these things, or talk to local Road Safety Officers before these highly expensive changes are made? The previous signs were colourful, easily seen and did what it said on the tin. These look like a cheap ice cream logo and do not stand out at a distance.

Oh yes, and we were told we couldn't buy a green site badge as they are also being changed but none had arrived yet!

It is too late to change, what would have been a good idea, to involve the membership with the design, has been missed.

Brue

You are no doubt right about changing anything in the short term and I expect the Club would come in for renewed criticism for wasting more money. However I would like to think that in the longer term to Club would come to realise that the colours don't really work and would reconsider the choice. The previous light green upgrade to Club site sign colours I thought was both modern and suited the ambience of the Club more than the new colours. I am not convinced that consultation on such changes work because you first have to convince people there is a need. I often do YouGov surveys and from time to time they test out how people react to rebranding of famous names usually given several options. That sort of survey is a better option in my view.

I've just lost a post, reply button looked ok. Hope it doesn't turn up as I'll be repeating myself. Will now try again.

I feel the new logo has all the signs of being designed by committee, it's safe and dull and with the dreary dull reds and orange is only a few white pigment drops from being beige. Anyone with colour blindness on this spectrum will probably miss the differences in colour. Originally I thought it was ok because it is indeed "safe and dull."

Many years ago I went to a brand new comprehensive. The school colours had been chosen but the badge design was put out to all concerned, "students", staff and parents. Surprise! One of the Dads was a designer and came up with an innovative design. It was good to wear a badge that was both unusual and modern. Not that I'm a great badge wearer but it inspired budding designers about what was needed when you produce a new design.

An opportunity has been missed by the club to engage all members with a similar competition, we could have voted on a short list.

I don't think anything will now change for a long time.

The new companies "corperate?" Image ? is at stage one? a real Hotch Potch of colours , what with a least three new  diferent coloured signs plus the two shades of old and "new" greens, that were not transfered (more cost to come?),to achieve what??

We have just returned from 8 days at Malvern Hills Club Site. Not been there before and found the road ok but drove straight past the site looking for a green sign. Silly us - should have known they had been changed. The new ones are just about invisible!!! Insipid colours and not at all eye catching. Also, the wife asked for a sites plaque and was given what can only be described as a child's toy disc.

Come on Club commitee, you can do better than this surely. we didn't ask for the name to be changed so why do it. It was not necessary and a waste of money. What about the tenters in the club. Are we going to be called the Caravan, Motorhome and Tenter's club soon?

Also while on the site we noticed several motorhomers driving off site with the waste taps open just letting it run all over the roadway. Thanks folks - that's very hygienic!!

That's what you get for letting them in the Caravan Club - oops shouldn't say that.

No you shouldn't say that but I hope your comment makes you feel better. If it's meant as a joke try indicating as much by using smileys.

You will, of course, have checked it was waste water being drained and not surplus fresh water.

Personally I think the name & logo change has been fantastic. Following the announcement earlier this year, whenever there's been nothing entertaining on TV to watch, I've just come on here and had a right old laugh at all the ridiculous and hilarious fallout from it. Comments like:
It's wrong, needs changing and pressure from members will bring it about
I'm seriously thinking about cancelling my membership
Why wasn't I asked
The new logo has done nothing whatsoever to enhance the reputation of the club
I would like to ask if the new logo is actually legal
The disgraceful waste of money the new logo has caused
Whatever happened to the statistics I requested on the numbers of members polled
Senior club officers should be offered early retirement
A private room and a loaded revolver more like

Maybe a name change to The Victor Meldrew Touring Club would have been more appropriate.

Has it stopped members actually doing any of things that could be done before - No
Does it affect our stay on a Club site pitch - No
Can we still visit all the great sites in great locations across the UK- Yes
Does it actually make any difference whatsoever - No
Has it given rise to a pompous sense of self-importance -Afraid so

This post sums it up really...

"the change of name and logo has obviously caused trauma in many quarters. People are having to lie down in darkened rooms and their lives have been deeply affected and will never be the same again. Perhaps we should show some compassion for these poor souls who are now but shells of their former selves"

No doubt the nonsense will rumble on in one form or another, but all it does is reconfirm why the Club is trying to move forward.

63,

I respect your viewpoint, which I accept is as valid as mine. But the fact remains that the membership was not consulted, and the first they knew about it, it was already fete acompley.  I am sorry but having been a member since 1979, ( With a short break 80-84) I would have expected more.

I am sure that you will also respect my decision, not to renew my membership in July. I have always been a member of both main clubs, and had decided that due to retirement & reduced funds, that I would cease membership of C&CC. This change has reversed that decision and I will now change to leaving the CC. ( I do not recognise the new name).

63  With club sites closing,  falling behind in quality to the commercial section, our biggest  gripe is the way Ho use OUR funds. They could be better used on improving the basics not  on some ego trip. This waste of monies should have had some members imput.  Like Tigers fish I have cancelled my DD. There may be a lot more like us out there.
