I have just read an article in a Railway Publication where there are plans to build a lorry park near the M20 in Kent with spaces for 3600 vehicles and Eurotunnel even after Brexit expects to be carrying Two million trucks per year by 2020,an increase of over 500,000 more than now,and we think our roads are busy now

Yes, but you and I will have to pay taxes in every common market country we drive/tour through in the future. As it is  I seem to recall paying motorway tolls, even on EU funded motorways in Portugal!

According to the truckers association the charges are nothing compared to the costs the Brit truckers pay. I know nothing other than seeing a spokesperson for the truckers being interviewed.

As a caravanner I don't recall being charged for using continental roads, nor am I aware that continental caravanners are charged for using ours. If a European truck is charged for delivering in the UK then the UK end user will find that cost passed onto them. If the cost of exporting from the UK in a truck has charges levied then it will increase our export costs and the desirability of UK products. Come along, we're all citizens of the planet - let's live in harmony.

I think there maybe more toll roads over the channel, so you will perhaps be paying extra for this usage. The planned truck park in Kent is to avoid future "stacking" operations on the approach roads to the ports.

JennyC, there are toll motorways in Europe. Switzerland and Portugal to name but two such countries that charge. Not on all their domestic roads though.

And their toll roads are alternatives to non chargeable roads, with, in my experience of European toll roads, far less traffic and an easier drive. We charge for some river crossings not to mention part of the M6 if we chose those routes. However the UK's "fuel duty" affects all drivers, including foreigners, at a very high rate, and it's not even ploughed back into road provision and repairs.

i agree, Jenny, what we need is a common market where we can trade equally with everyone in Europe....
