Fence Paint

Just bought a pump up fence paint sprayer,  mainly for the awkward areas that you can't get to with a brush. But I wondered if the normal brush on fence paint (if diluted ) could be used in the sprayer. The problem being I have gallons of the ordinary stuff , and I have noticed the sprayable type is quite expensive. Anyone tried this ?

I always try to use oil based preservatives as it soaks into the fence timber giving longer protection. Water based stuff is thinner and simply creates a coating which soon cracks and lets the water get through to the wood, I think it is poor quality but has to be thin to get through the spray nozzle.

Our next door neighbour decided to spray paint his side of the fence. On our return home we found that it had sprayed through the fence. There were tiny spots of paint all over our patio furniture, it looked awful and it took us hours to clean it all off. He did apologise, didn't realise that it had sprayed through, says he will stick to using a brush in future. So please be careful with the spray painting.

OH is outside just now using an oil based preservative with a spray and a brush. A new shed arrived yesterday and he's doing each section before putting the shed together. Not near any neighbours but the wind is a bit of a problem so he's had to move things around.

Exactly so, CY, you should have seen my face when I rollered at speed. Doctor nearly callled the institute for tropical diseases! Laughing

Had ago yesterday , paint all over my hands and running down the woodwork. I finished it off with a brush. Will try again as I think it's a matter of getting the paint and water mixture right.
