My job used to take me to China quite often, and the public loos were quite the worst anywhere in the world. Similar to the older French hole in the ground but multiple holes with no privicy separations!
Soon learned only to use the one in the hotel room!

On a trip to China our bus stopped at roadside eaterie, the ladies loo was of the same style but as a nod to western toilet culture the facilities were divided by grubby bedsheets hanging from string, judging by the howls of laughter it was a good icebreaker

sorry to say little new here - whilst skiing in Austria this year there were several loos at the top of the slopes that were built of one way mirror glass. From the inside a spectacular view of the mountains and ski slopes from outside ... a spectacular view of the mountains and ski slopes.
