It's good to hear that members of CT are receiving their vaccinations, good luck to all those yet to have theirs. It seems like a long haul till we get everyone sorted and hear the results of the present vaccines.

I'm leaving this open for non political comments as per the guidelines. Hope you can add your own experiences and thoughts.

My first jab comes up tomorrow, I'm so glad we have research institutions that have got us this far! And I am planning breaks away in the hope of improvements on the horizon.

The bigger idiots are those that allowed football and rugby to continue, the outcome of this match was obvious. Allowed just to appease the public.

As i understand it, at the moment the passport being talked about the most is an EU wide passport where countries outside the EU will be invited to participate, and if the EU is as good at rolling out this passport as they are the vaccination programme, dont hold your breath as to when it will be available, hence countries such as Greece, Portugal, Spain are already talking about providing their own in conjunction with the UK, and why wouldnt they undecidedso much for a joined up EU community.

But surely the passport is not the holy grail, the vaccine does not stop you becoming infected, it does not stop you infecting others, so the passport is only proof of having had the vaccination which might protect you from the worst of the virus.

So, the scenario, ...when you have had a lovely time in France and you are about to return to the UK where the requirement to enter is still a negative covid-19 test within 72 hours, you dutifully have the test but prove positive, yes you stand a much greater chance of being asymptomatic now you have been vaccinated, where exactly do you go, every possibility you will have to self isolate for 7 - 14 days and provide a negative test,

do you stay on site and politely inform the owner you are covid-19 positive, with all the implications that go hand in hand with your declaration.

if you are holed up on an aires do you now have to find a site for 7 - 14 days again politely informing the owner you are covid-19 positive, sure they are going to be very happy to have you NOT!!!

Must admit i am one of those who says "it will never happen to me"

and how is the vaccination roll out going

UK total doses 21.8M 32.5 pct of population

France total doses 5.0m 7.4 pct of population

Spain total doses 4.2m 9.1 pct of population

Croatia total doses 242,000 5.9 pct of population

yes there is some concern over the total number of deaths in the UK and total number of infections, but there is strong evidence to suggest, that as we are a nation of fatties and covid likes fatties we came off the worst undecided

So is a passport the answer to all our prayers ???

Nicely put Rufs.  It also does not stop you from catching and possibly returning with a more virulent vaccine resistant variant.  Mind you if the opportunity presents later in the year we will go.

What irritates is that a few people making minor indiscretions get fined but it seems that the football supporters got away with it scot free.

  • The figures for the rate of covid deaths in any country is how the figures are "worked out"undecided in the uk it is any course within 28 days  of a test? but it seems many have proved negative ,or not had a test ,and is now being questioned surprised

Have to agree with that, even as a keen follower of most sports.  From the moment the Cheltenham Festival was allowed to go ahead with huge crowds, sport has, for some reason, been considered a case apart. Totally incomprehensible really (IMHO). frown

We would go within weeks were we able to but it seems we will be locked in a bit longer yet and when we do go its going to be a rather "pared down" version of our normal trips.frown

I think we will be released to travel abroad around mid June / July.  No doubt there will be a rush.  We will wait until a significant number have return and see what happens.  September has always been a good time across the water so waiting until mid August to book will be no hardship.

I hope you're right! We have an island hopping holiday booked in Greece for September, carried over from last year. Wouldn't want to postpone it again. Mind you, if there are still the current quarantine and testing on return arrangements in force then we won't be going anyway!
