Do you Freeze BBQd food?

I was chatting online to a friend in the US and she was telling me they used to BBQ extra food and freeze it.  I had never thought of it - and wondered if anyone else does and are there any tips.  Typically its only stews and soups etc that I freeze - but making use of the hot charcoal BBQ for making extra appeals as long as it is worth eating!  I have a BBQd chicken in the fridge at the moment - but it was an experiment in the new BBQ and somewhat overcooked - I think the dogs are going to enjoy some of that!

Pip, yes I have done in the past, only Burgers & steaks mind none of the little things. I then thaw them & microwave them. The micro seems to put moisture in them, or at least not take more moisture out. Any peppers or sweet corn I've made a stir fry from them. The Chicken becomes Dog food as it always seems too dry. My Dogs don't complain. . . .EverHappy

The word "risky" comes to mind.

Why?  My attitude is that if the food was good and safe to start with then as long as you cool it and freeze it promptly it will be perfectly safe.  Whether it will be 'as good' is a different issue, but generally cooked meat/poultry no problem IMHO.

Tigi, it can't be that risky or there wouldn't be so many folk doing itHappy

Thanks Rocky and Vic most useful and of course Tigi I would use all the "safe" practices of food hygiene necessary with freezing.  However I do think there has been some scaremongering leading to a huge amount of good food going to waste in recent years.

Part of the reason for asking the question was being solo I love BBQd food but it seems a huge waste to fire up for one burger and a sausage!  So next time I will make a bit extra for the freezer I think.  The other reason was another online American friend regularly had leftover Macdonalds for Sunday supper, since I can't stand fresh Mac it made me wonder!  (I eat BK and Wimpy occasionally but Macs have always seemed truly awful!). Silly probably as I reheat Indian Takeaways!

Rocky I have a fridge magnet that says "if your dog thinks you are The Best. Don't ask for a second opinion"  Happy

Yes excellent judges!  another thing I have on a cushion is "The more people I meet the more I love my dogs"!

To stay on topic though I had a delicious cold sausage with my salad lunch today Happy

SnapLaughing, I am stir frying with leftovers from weeks ago that'd been frozen. Mixed with micro'd couscous-I like couscousHappy, PS-that wasn't leftovers mind. I'm not sure the thick sliced aubergine looks too goodEmbarassed, I may need to fry that to put a bit of body in it-I'll use olive oil for the flavour considering I'm throwing olives in the mixHappy. I can't say I have ever frozen aubergine but I love a nice parcel  of aubergine on the BBQ - a bit fiddly and it would be great to do extra of those to freeze - I think I will have to experiment!  Another favourite is Sausage slit lengthways two prunes stuffed in and wrapped in bacon.  Those would freeze ok I guess.  Smile
