When is a rule not a rule?

Just got back from Cromer Seacroft site where there are two notices at the entry stating “Sorry no arrivals before 1.00pm”. However on at least two occasions we witnessed people, not only arriving before 1.00pm but being booked in and allowed on site, why do I bother timing my journeys and / or stopping in lay-bys to ensure I arrive after the advertised time when the rule is so blatantly ignored by others (including the wardens who allow it to happen)? 🤬

Unfortunately you are never going to please all the people, all the time. For every person who wants to get up and get going, there is likely to be one who wants to take things a little slower.  For us 1pm is a benefit if we want to get there at arrival time to secure a HS pitch. It gives us time to restock on the way without rushing. Or if starting out, extra time to bring it home from storage and fill it. Although soon it won’t matter as you’ll be able to book surface type.
That’s all gone a bit quite by the way, no mention of when in the latest newsletter.🤔

This thread has come to epitomise a lot of the very sad aspects of Club membership nowadays. 🤷‍♀️ Endless angst around what is really trivia in the larger scale of simply getting out and touring. Folks so bored they are sat on sites, poring over what is happening at the entrance gates, watching how the staff carry out their day to day tasks, and wanting to be consulted on every single decision the Club makes. 🤷‍♀️

My feeling too. I am not desperate to spend every last minute I have paid for on site but in instances like our last trip from home to a club site that was only 80 miles, we were hitched and ready to go and then had to hang around killing time to comply with an arbitrary  arrival rule.

That's bit like saying I've got my shopping bags and we're all set to go shopping but have to wait around till the shops open? Get ready a bit later or use the time to do something else?

Also it's not an arbitrary arrival time at all? It's based on planning, you may disagree with that planning but it is not arbitrary.

Yes, wasn’t it 12:00 for departures and arrivals?

If so, it didn’t make sense to have the same time for both.

All the sites I have been on prior to the change had 11.00 departure time, leaving an hour gap before arrivals.

TDA the truth of your post amply demonstrates why I rarely post here on CT.  It’s just one big whinge fest.

Steve the fact that you are using a motorhome  does have implications for arriving at set times or as you mentioned getting in some shopping along the way. Towing a caravan and looking  for that elusive laybye is a different  matter as I am sure you remember from your towing days. When we moved from Hillhead to Willingcott, not a great distance but all A or B roads I could count on one hand how may laybye we saw and most of the were already occupied  with caravans.

Tbh, those are 2 sites I would not have attempted to link together as the best access would be to backtrack up the A38/M5 from Torbay and then take the North Devon Link Road from the Tiverton jcn, and there are lay-bys on that one. I'd have told you that if you'd asked and I'd also have told you the area was one to stay away from in summer, especially last year of all years when the world and his wife were visiting.

Still, that's water under the bridge now but I can't understand why you get ready too early and then 'kill time'. That's a strange concept to me.
