Steamer Quay refurb removal of non EHU pitches

Just had my copy of the December magazine and noticed that the economy pitches are to be removed at Steamer Quay as part of the refurbishment.  As I understand it, these are the non-EHU pitches.  Isnt this somewhat short sighted in the current climate?  Surely more will be using off grid as a way of saving money?  We certainly will be next year.  Maybe there is some special issue at this site?  I havnt stayed there, just noticed it in the magazine.

Ouch indeed! I suspect that those of us who like SQ as it is will perhaps be deterred by higher prices, but the refurbishment will possibly bring in people who like SP, and are prepared to pay the Club’s rate.

Goodness knows, I have my extravagances (in abundance). Paying upwards of £30 in Low Season, and well over £40 in High Season for a pitch on CAMC sites (which I consider to be nothing special) is not one of them.

I agree with much of what you say but when the 80% of SP being used by MH's did anyone bother to say what the overall mix.  Perhaps predominately MH''s or maybe they went for SP just to be sure of getting a HS.

On SQ I can understand HS being required if the area is affected by bad weather but how does installing EHU help with that scenario?

It's only hardstandings open in December DD.

As for installing electric at SQ, I believe there's a simple sentence in answer to that. It's what people want.

Noticing your post on another thread, I was wondering if you were back JK.

Yeah sort of back peedee, we're working next month so I thought I'd look in and join in. We've tried to keep away mentally and physically from work for a bit, head needed clearingfoot-in-mouth

Almost certainly a good thing to do. Hope the New Year is a good one for you and your good lady.

I don't think there will be the same driving force to book SPs now that you can book hardstandings. I have never really understood the need for motorhomes to use SPs anyway, thery are much more self contained than caravans.

Agreed, probably the last 'extra' we need on a site....🤷🏻‍♂️

Good Afternoon

Just out of interest, I've just spent a week at Seacroft club site. Having a brew with the staff the chat got around to the motorhome / caravan balance and pitch use. Over the Christmas week (this one) 80% of the serviced pitches are booked by motorhomers.

Regarding Steamer Quay, someone has mentioned the refurb spoiling the character of the place. Yes it has charm but it also has a very high water table. The bottom of the site quickly becomes unusable in bad weather. Part of the agreement from the council is that the site is open all year so that obviously means hardstanding pitches and electric hookup. Don't quote me but in my opinion metering would make sense as everything will be new?wink

I personally don't need electric or water on a pitch but that won't stop me visiting there. For me it's always location first. I've stayed at Steamer before when the van lifer travellers were staying at Longmarsh car park. Mmmmmm, no thanks.
