Exciting News! At Wyatts Covert Club Campsite we’re trialling Smart Metering, which means you will only pay for the amount of electricity you use during your stay.

The price quoted for bookings at this campsite excludes electricity (with campsite fees reduced accordingly) and we will only charge you for the precise amount of electricity you use during your stay.

This is something many members have been asking for and we’re really pleased to be able to trial it this year! Find out more at https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/smartmetering/

You can stay in a Premier Inn or Travelodge for less than that!

I suspect when it's rolled out they will use the averages applicable to each individual site rather than that of the two test sites.   The cost of electric will also need to be localised as this also differs across the UK.  My guess is that the trial is to test the technology rather than users consumption.

Personally Id rather they just increase he site fees, somewhere between £60-£90 per night seems reasonable for two adults.

I wouldn’t pay that much to stay in my own van.

I doubt that they will be able to use averages.  The law is quite clear, they can only charge the unit price that they pay.

I'm in favour of getting metered EHU points.

How are EV charging points funded in car parks, services, supermarkets etc?  The cost of the location, installation and maintenance of the EV point must be recovered by charging more per unit otherwise why would any business provide the charging point. ?  Do EV charging point provider's have to let you know how much they pay per unit?   Wouldn't that be commercially sensitive information?

Doesn't it follow then that the site EHU metered hookup must be able to charge more than CAMC pay for it to cover installation and on going service and maintenance costs OR they have to recover those costs by not reducing that metered pitch fee?

Am I missing something?

Yes you are mixing up the process. A metered EHU supply can only be supplied at cost, all expenses and fees incurred can be added elsewhere eg into the overall pitch costs but the supply must remain at the actual supply rate.
