Reduced site "streetlighting"

Back when we lived in a house there was a street light 20 meters away that had that blaring sun glow that wasn't at all friendly for a 3 shift work pattern. Strangely it always had a fault which always seemed to coincide with my late shifts

It’s always been one of our favourite bits of being on a CL rather than a big site, they are often very good for night sky watching. 

Hmm, I wonder where the picture that DSB posted is hiding ?? ( Spent ages last night looking ! ) The one of the super night sky up there in the western Isles ~~ now that was a cracker of a night sky !!

Where we live the adjoining villages don't have street lighting and no-one complains, head or hand torches become part of life.

We've just stayed on a CL that had one light by the tap and bin area. The night sky view was great. I think we're finally moving away from blazing lights everywhere but sadly our local country park hills are lit up from behind by encroaching new housing developments. It's good to hear that small efforts to reduce the effects and costs of lighting are being introduced.
