Reduced site "streetlighting"

Just had a week at Breamish site.  Pleased to find they had turned off most of the lights around the site.  Still not particularly dark where we were as we had a multihead LED light on the wrong side (why?) of the service point.  But what a pleasure not to have to put up with enough illumination to make Heathrow blush at the excess.

Please keep this up and do it at other sites.  We can all use torches for walking around, and obviously somewhat surprisingly, cars etc have lights to help us manoeuvre safely.

Evening

All sites have been taking part in a "dark skies trial". In reality only the electric bollard lights have been turned off, all low level lights on pathways etc and toilet blocks / receptions and service points the lights are still on plus any site specific areas where safety could be at risk. On my site I've converted the service point lights to pir as well. Feedback here has been great, it's so nice that everyone appreciates the night sky. We have a seasonal pitch holder that has a telescope and the views on that with no light pollution are just fantasticlaughing

Always thought lighting on both club and CL’s has been overkill, hopefully the trial will be a success

We agree as well. we are used to carrying torches with us and of course there is the smart phone light built into it. Like the idea of dark skies as we have a scope which we could use.

Great move. Sensor movement ones where there's steps etc. at taps and waste disposal, and as you reach facilities blocks. Cuts down light pollution and leccy bills. Sets a good example to users too.

Folk managed in the blackout 😉 and they didn't have luxury of sensor lights. My mum never got out if the habit of carrying a torch.

We had the dark week whilst at Wirral CP week before last and it was a boon.

Really hope they now extend the trial into something more permanent.

Slightly off topic , we live in a cul de sac about 400m long , there are 8 street lights , ...why ?.. the council could easily knock out every other one , or better still have motion sensors fitted .. Have tried talking about it.to local councilor but that's been a complete waste of time . Local elections should be interesting.😃.
