I haven't seen any confirmation or otherwise regarding this but have just read it on Faceache with a date of 25th June being, allegedly, given by a member of site staff for implementation.

UP TO DATE INFORMATION ON BOOKINGS

We are normally able to book for next June from today.
However this isn’t possible as the website is moving over to deposits in the next couple of weeks.
So at this time we cannot book anything for next June until the system is live.

I've just looked and the FAQ's and found the following.  Can't work out what it means.  If I arrive expecting to go on a grass pitch for a certain price only to find that they are closed, perhaps to wet, and the only alternative is a full fat fully serviced pitch will I be able to use the alternative for the grass pitch price or will CC Ltd want more of my hard earned?

The FAQ:

What happens if my pre-booked pitch type is not available, for example, due to adverse weather conditions?

The possibility of you not being able to be accommodated on your booked pitch type will continue to be managed on a case by case basis by our site staff. If pitches are taken off sale by us due to adverse weather conditions or other operational reasons, you will be offered a refund or an amendment to either another pitch type or an alternative Club campsite.

Sensibly I think it will all depend on at what point you are made aware that the pitch is not available. If prior to arrival then I would expect it to be down to the member as to whether to accept a refund or pay extra for a better pitch. If it is on arrival then that whould be down to the Club and any upgrade available would be at no extra cost. In the latter case if nothing is available then the question of compensation would arise.

That is how I view it.

We don’t yet know what this new booking site will look like. Perhaps it won’t show you that grass is available, dependent on vehicle type and how far in advance you are booking. This would reduce the risk of having to cancel someone who has booked months before.
This certainly happens with the C&CC when booking 10 months ahead. The only pitches on offer for a MH  were hardstanding, although if I changed our outfit type, grass appeared. As I was after HS it wasn’t an issue, however if I had wanted grass I would have had to leave booking until much later. When I’ve been looking closer to departure for a few days away, grass has been offered as an option, but not always HS.

Not come across that Steve I would think tent campers wouldn't be too happy? Usually I find that there's more likely to be grass pitches only, left over on popular sites. Hence all the grass discounts etc.

I don’t think it would affect tent campers brue. They are not going to impact as much on the grass. It just wouldn’t let me book a 3.5 tonne MH on anything other than HS for an early May arrival. Might have been different if I had tried July.

So to be clear, grass pitches were available but you couldn't book them?

Posted on 23/08/2022 09:22

Yes that was the case. Not for a MH.

I have suspected this but I have never checked it out like you have. Perhaps it depends on the size of the motorhome.

Like Brue, I have never come across the problem you describe.

There are some C&CC sites where motorhomes, not even small camper vans, are allowed on grass pitches, at any time of year; Blackmore comes to mind.  Even though it is next to the CAMC Malvern site, where grass pitches can be used by motorhomes, the C&CC will not change its policy.

We do tend to book well ahead, typically 10 months. I don’t suppose they are going to know if grass is going to be suitable for a MH in the first week of May. I wanted HS, so it wasn’t an issue but was surprised that everything else was booked up. So out of interest I tried other accommodation types. I could have had a grass with electric with a caravan. It makes sense, I am very wary about taking the MH onto soggy grass. Although we preferred HS, I wasn’t as concerned when we had a caravan. When we visited there were MH’s on grass, but perhaps they booked later.
