Joining different clubs

Hi all

I have been a CAMC member since I bought my van in 2013 and I have yet to stay on a site which I didn't like so I am not thinking of leaving the Club.  A few years ago, I joined the CCC as well for 12 months, but left as when I joined, I was not aware that many of their sites have a minimum of 3 nights and as I was still working midweek at the time, found that it was not very suitable.  I am now retired so thinking of rejoining, however, after reading on this discussion group about many bad reviews on Trustpilot, I had a look at some of them and was very surprised as they appear at odds with the reviews of their sites on their web page.  I know that many of you are members of both Clubs and was wondering what your views about the "other" Club are

Why would they 'keep' checking? Once a day at kick out time would suffice. They often have more site staff than CAMC with wardens out and about seeing what’s going on.

So that is why they are so regimented with arrival times?

No more regimented than CAMC.

They usually ask for your preferences, eg near facilities/away from the play area, then take you to that area and point out a likely pitch but you’re quite at liberty to say you’d rather have something else, subject to availability. The warden will then direct you onto the pitch, which means you will be pitched correctly, and will help uncouple caravans if needed. He/she will then point out the nearest service point and other facilities.

I like it.  The better restaurants show me to a table and pul out a chair for me. The better hotels show me to a room and carry my bag as we go. And, as Tinwheeler says, there are campsites where you are shown to a pitch, escorted and offered assistance - not left to run around on your own.

As I remember, they are usually key pad operated and the code number is given you you on check in.

Every one of the eight we have used, have had as you say a code for the entry barrier, which was on the information we ŵere given at check in. I think all the exit barriers opened as you approached. We didn’t have any issue with the system and were generally on a pitch about 50% quicker than on a CAMC site.

I must admit that being shown to a pitch probably prevented us joining the C&CC earlier than we did. The reality is as others have said nowhere near as bad as some expect. I also find that when I use a C&CC pitch I tend to get more ready  information from the site manager than I would from a CMC reception where I am handed a site map (no such thing on a C&CC site) and a site leaflet. We were wrong footed once when we went to the St Neots site and were told just to go and find a pitch!!!

One thing I like about the CMC sites is that they have service points at regular interval, including chemical disposal. On most C&CC sites I have used chemical disposal is nearly always at the toilet block so that aspect is not so convenient.

Part of the "allocated pitch" is surely to do with the vast range of sizes of pitches and surface types, and the foreknowing of what types of outfits have booked for what type of pitch still to arrive?
