We’re delighted to announce the Club has purchased Dornafield Touring Park.

The site, to be called Dornafield Club Campsite is situated in a quiet valley, surrounded by beautiful countryside and perfectly placed for exploring Torquay, Totnes, Newton Abbot and Dartmoor.

On-site there are over 100 all-weather fully serviced pitches, excellent facilities and lots of entertainment for all to enjoy - including table tennis, pool, darts, two adventure playgrounds, a dog walk and an all-weather tennis court!

Ah yes the site is special, a treat.  To me personally it looks from the photos like a small club site but with even higher prices, and I'm not sure what smaller number of pitches have to do with higher prices?

Of course you saying the club's middle of the road sites with high prices doesn't make it true, it's not a fact, or you are saying and judging these things for us?

Time will indeed tell. I think like most regular club sites user it's welcome addition.

Steve your argument for CC Ltd to continue its policy of not allowing splash and dash is also a very good argument for them to actively offer the service.  If they do those very few people that do dump irresponsibly may be encouraged to pop in for a legal, safe and clean service.

I believe the C&CC charge £7. Perhaps not such an incentive for those who would dump illegally to pop in.

It's whether you take the horse to the water or not...

Both clubs have the infrastructure in place to ensure waste is correctly disposed of. Why should pubs etc spend shed load on waste services when overnight parking isn't their core business.

I wonder why C&CC take a different view to CAMC on this subject? Surely they'd both be in alignment if this was such an awful things for members to be doing?

Why shouldn’t the pubs spend the money, they want to benefit from the motor-homers eating and drinking in their establishment. Why should other organisations have to inconvenience their customers to bail the pubs out.

Looking good! A possible site for us to visit.

Loved reading the reviews when it was an affiliated site, majority very positive. Enjoyed reading the sites responses to those few poor ones. Good to hear both sides of the ‘stories’ being told!

Why should pubs offer anything at all to MH-ers? Many either don't charge or just ask for a minimal sum. Enforce rules about facilities and they'll likely stop overnight parking on their land.

Pub owners are only interested in takings behind the bar which MH-ers hopefully contribute towards, so the present system benefits both landlords and campers. As soon as the pubs are expected to dig deep to provide facilities, their gain goes out of the window and with it goes the benefit to MH-ers.

Don't forget you can usually use pub facilities during opening hours.

Ah, Dornafield, the subject of the thread👍. CAMC must be overwhelmed by the joyous response to its acquisition 🤣🤣🤣🤣

"Miďdle of the road and high prices "  is not a fact of course it's a perception  and that what we all exercise when judging if an item or service  is value for money.  Your perception is that CAMC sites offer good value for money based on the numbers taking them.

Posted on 06/12/2022 12:06

Not at all David, that is not my perception at all. I'll be interested to see where I've written that?

What I have often said is that judging by their popularity they must be offering something that people want, (maybe VFM, maybe excellent standards...)  nothing to do with just value for money and totally different ..

I have also often stated that value for money is a personal issue.

I don’t think it would interest us much. No local footpaths shown on the OS map and although there is a bus service not that far away, it’s down the end of that narrow approach road. Looks a nice site though, possibly more suited to tuggers or MH’s that tow a car.

Posted on 06/12/2022 12:20

I think you have summed it up well. The reviews of the site itself have always been excellent, but the bus service for those who need it is just once an hour to Newton Abbot or Totnes.

If location is more important than a pretty, well landscaped campsite then you can stay at Totnes without waiting for a bus to get there.
