Cost of sites has gone mad

For about 13/14 years we have stayed at North Yorkshire Moors Site.  Its one of our favourite sites on the network and perfect for our family.

Ive just been looking for the end of May as its half term for our kids and was almost floored when i saw the price.

This is a site which is lovely but has no toilet block. 2 Adults, 3 Children £36.70 per night!!!! When we first stayed there it was £18 i believe.

I then checked scarborough west ayton which we also like and stayed there last year - £60.20 per night

We thought the price we paid at easter at Gwern y Bwlch was bad enough but this is now a complete joke.

We have stayed in a lovely small site only 500 yards up the road, with the best views in whitby and a toilet and its only £18-20 per night.

Do the caravan club actually want anyone to keep with them.  We've been members for 15 years and i am pretty close to leaving now as its just unsustainable.

Do they want families or are they actually just want older couples with dogs to visit their sites and create an exclusive adult only and dog club?

Im aware the cost of electric etc is rising but not surely by that much!!

Anyone else think the same or am i just going mad

hope you enjoy peedee, have you factored in breakdown/medical cover, not sure £420 would cover my diesel costs from ferry to Southern Spain and return, and sites in Spain do increase prices over holidays such as Easter, but when we go we dont really keep a tag on how much we have spent.

going to stay with my daughter for 10 days in San Miguel, £250 for air fare, £12.50 per month for medical/breakdown cover, not that i will need the breakdown part, b/b evening meal FOC, just responsible for keeping the beer fridge topped up. laughing

On the 12th May off to a Tranquil site in Cornwall, fully serviced pitch in a quiet location with an excellent dog walk 20 minutes from Peranporth £200 for 7 days we will be staying for 10 days , but happy to pay close to £30 per night. Might consider overthere for our autumn trip, but currently booked for 1 month on a site in Devon at 2022 prices because we booked as we left last year.

Happy to consider doing so JK when you have answered my question about the trial unit charge for electricity prior to it becoming public knowledge and of course your information is shown to be correct 😉.

It would obviously be rather churlish of me to ask for my p45 and  try and share information I have no knowledge of DD.

Although I have no interest it would though be nice and encouraging to fellow posters here to know where these fantastic places are, after all the thread title is the cost of sites has gone mad but you've found a full serviced pitch for £26. Why such reluctance to share?

JK

I think it's a great shame and dis-service to follow posters where someone finds a great VFM site with great facilities (to them of course - it's not a fact) is talked about but for some reason they are unwillingness to share the name and location. I can sort of understand perhaps not on the actual thread but why not on the small private sites thread? Then everyone can enjoy the site?

As highlighted in other posts, the business model fit camp sites abroad is often different to the UK for many reasons. Some countries have tax regimes that benefit seasonal business’s. However not all sites ‘over there’ are lower priced. We stayed on a site near Fussen in southern Germany in 2013 which even then was €43/night just for a standard small pitch.
