Cost of sites has gone mad

For about 13/14 years we have stayed at North Yorkshire Moors Site.  Its one of our favourite sites on the network and perfect for our family.

Ive just been looking for the end of May as its half term for our kids and was almost floored when i saw the price.

This is a site which is lovely but has no toilet block. 2 Adults, 3 Children £36.70 per night!!!! When we first stayed there it was £18 i believe.

I then checked scarborough west ayton which we also like and stayed there last year - £60.20 per night

We thought the price we paid at easter at Gwern y Bwlch was bad enough but this is now a complete joke.

We have stayed in a lovely small site only 500 yards up the road, with the best views in whitby and a toilet and its only £18-20 per night.

Do the caravan club actually want anyone to keep with them.  We've been members for 15 years and i am pretty close to leaving now as its just unsustainable.

Do they want families or are they actually just want older couples with dogs to visit their sites and create an exclusive adult only and dog club?

Im aware the cost of electric etc is rising but not surely by that much!!

Anyone else think the same or am i just going mad

I find it useful to get the 'real’ view from a man on the ground amidst the speculation we read on here.

+1

I value the contributions from JK, especially as they come from somebody who spends the majority of the year on club sites.

There are always two sides to a story and some like to jump to assumptions or conclusions in order to make a point. Sometimes misunderstandings and incorrect factual information is innocently perpetuated. It is refreshing to have clarification or an enlightened viewpoint from the other side. Like you and me lets not forget that JK is also a fully paid up member too! 👍

Not us as we think its got too expensive too especially, 2 adults and dogs all very shocked at site prices, we also loved visiting North York Moors site but thinking twice about caravan club sites.

Good VFM is still available.  We are on a lovely site on the Devon Cornwall border.

On arrival the manager showed us the full service. pitch and laughed when I asked if it was okay to pitch to the left to suit our RH door MH. His comment was we don't have pegs you can pitch any way you wish, please try to stay on the gravel but park your car on the grass finger if you want.

The lovely facilities include large individual bathrooms, nice and warm.  The site is truly mixed.  Tiny tents, with cars, vans large and small, and motor bikes to large c/vans and MH's. Even a German estate car with a Thule roof tent.

A useful shop with staples and treats.

There is a range of pitch types, and choice of on pitch facilities from none to full service.  Our full service pitch, including 16A EHU is costing a modest £23.60 per night for two people.

There are quite a few posters on this forum whose main aim is to find a perceived value for money site. Why not share this site with those like minded folks DD? laughing

This is the absolute antithesis of the kind of site I would want to stay at. I completely respect and understand that there are those who think differently, but I find it slightly amusing that a condition of vans and cars being parked in any fashion that owners desire - and even on the grass strip between pitches - is seen as a positive. I would avoid such places like the plague, and that is why I am content to pay a premium to stay at club sites. I just wanted to make it clear that it is not a given, as DD's post implies, that everyone would regard a pitching free-for-all as a plus point.

I wonder why pegs and grass fingers are mentioned by the site owner to DD. Those phrases are normally only described by users of club sites at club sites. Unless of course they are condoning parking at an unsafe distance from neighbouring outfits?

I too can’t see how a free for all in any respect of a site could be a bonus in any way. A few years ago we stayed on a private site which we had booked in advance only to be shocked on arrival as to how ‘chaotic’ the pitching was. We had booked a non electric pitch (all that had been available). Having pitched up we went out for a walk only to return to find a unit with an awning no more than a metre and a half away for my  Eberspächer diesel exhaust. What made it worse was the diesel fumes (they are quite noisy too at the exhaust) was closest to their children’s sleeping component in that awning. To cut a long story very short I then felt I could not have any heating on during our stay. The site management felt it wasn’t a problem but I was concerned.

Oh, and you can pitch your van nose or rear in on CaMC sites!
