With the government wanting all cars to be electric in years to come and some MHers have them as runarounds how do you think the club should address the issue, This is NOT a thread against electric cars.

Do you think the club should change the bollard to accommodate the second connection, have a designated charging area and should the charging bollard be metered so you pay as you use, or the cost added to pitch fee, or any other suggestion.

I would be asking any CL owner for permission if charging an EV on site. CL owners operate their own systems often on low margins and it would only be polite ask.

Yes me too,

BGrant - why would you expect the rules and procedures on club sites to be applied on CL's? Do you know what a CL is?

We've had a few posts reported to us in this discussion. As the discussion has been forwarded to the sites team for their reference and feedback I'm going to temporarily close the discussion and hope to post soon with some further info.

Many thanks for those who have contributed constructively to this discussion and we value the feedback from our members.

They are not subsidising anything because other electric appliances are switched to make power available to charge the EV. On the contrary, EV users are subsidising others who are using their Alde heating, hot water fridge/ freezer, electric kettle etc. etc. on electric.

Can you read my post again, there was no mention of appliance use, it was your comment re purchasing your vehicle and the fuel allowance, I merely asked if in your case you expected the club to subsidise your traveling cost at work.

You need to be a member of the club to use a CL and these 5 van sites are in the Clubs site handbook and are therefore, part of the network of club sites. So the Club can determine rules, procedures or guidelines for the use of these. So similar to the Clubs policy, there is no reason for them to discriminate against EV users by imposing additional charges.

Even if this is closed, I have a feeling that this will just appear again on another thread undecided

We have only ever used one CL, so there demise would not greatly affect us. However, many folk rely on them both because they prefer them to large sites, and/or as a lower priced alternative. Given the smaller margins that most operate on and that increased cost can only be shared by at most 5 vans, personally I would ask if charging an EV required an extra payment. Certainly in summer it is going to be extra consumption, over and above what the owner will have estimated. Although your particular EV may be charged in 6 hours, even a partial charge on those with larger batteries could take 12 hours and consume about £3.16 worth of electricity. Might not sound much but it will soon mount up.
