Bladon Chains - another lost site?

What is going on? A planning application has been submitted for the demolition of the Club's site and for the erection of lodges to take its place!.

Check it out >here< on the West Oxfordshire Council site. Anyone got anymore information, does that mean the end of a site for Blenheim Palace and Woodstock or is the reason for the popup site?

I suspect it’s more an Estate issue than an unwillingness to put in improvements from a Club point of view. If the lease wasn’t worth it (and clearly the Estate had other plans) then the Club would be cautious about spending much on something out of their control? 🤷‍♀️

Perfectly understand that and totally agree there is no point the Club spending money if they are unlikely to get a return. However that doesn't change my view that for the site to continue (in the longer term, now looking unlikely) it needs investment.

What really puzzles me, in the light of Peedee's post, is why the Club embarked on the Pop up Site at Bladon Chains? Is this to be the future, with inferior quality sites being available only on a temporary basis?

Well I don't know how you spot these things Peedee but the application is on behalf of the estate and it's definitely for holiday lodges. Site plan LINK

The project still has the CAMC in it's title.

My curiosity was sparked by a comment on another forum and a Google search revealed all.

The web is faster than a drum beat Peedee! I see the site is open from March next year for bookings.

Yes, but it is not taking any bookings from 20 September 2021, so last day is Sunday 19 September.

Hi everyone,

After lengthy negotiations with Blenheim Palace Estate regarding the Club’s leased site, Bladon Chains, the Club has been given notice by the Estate that the current lease will be terminated in September 2021.

The Club is disappointed about the prospect of leaving Bladon Chains, but it welcomes the acknowledgement of the considerable benefits it has brought to both Blenheim Palace and the local community.  The Club is actively looking to find an alternative campsite in the area.

Bladon Chains will remain open as normal for our members to enjoy and the Club will keep members informed of any further developments.

Thanks Hannah for the update.

I would just add, on the prospect of a new site in the area, that the Club give priority to a location that has good transport links to both Oxford and Woodstock.

Oxford aerodrome - close to Blenheim, easy road access, canalside walk into the city. What's not to like?
