CAMC Affiliated Sites

Having just read yet another disappointing review of an AS ( this time Grant own on Spey) it left me wondering just why the club continues with this system. There seem to have been so many reviews recently mentioning substandard pitches and facilities along with poor behaviour by other guests and minimal compensation in the way of reduced fees.

So who benefits from the system? Seemingly not the club or individual members. Do the AS sites themselves gain any kudos by being associated with the club? Anyone got examples of really good experiences on an AS or benefits from using them?

We've never stayed on one as far as I can remember so it'd be interesting to hear other's experiences, good or bad.

We went to one in Dorset last year.  I booked over the phone.  When we arrived I mentioned that we were in the Caravan Club but no interest was shown and sight of our membership cards was not requested.  As far as I could tell we paid the same as a non-member just coming in off the road.  We were allocated a pitch which seemed OK until we had a downpour whereupon we had a six inch deep river through the awning.  We were on a T junction of the site roads and the water came at us from three directions.  As far as I could tell only our pitch was affected.  At least when it all dried out the pitch was not quite so alive with ants.

There were a few other bits that were definitely not the norm for Club sites like a bloke spending a good half an hour warming up a big quad bike including giving it some stick round the site roads.

We had a good holiday there though and oddly the wife mentioned only recently that she'd like to go back.

I hope Morris leisure are exempt from all this negativity.

Also it was the only time in my life I have seen a man carry a dog about a 100 yards from his pitch in order to place it on another pitch (which was occupied by a motorhome with the owners in residence) to defecate.  He did pick it up though!

Yes, definitely a few unusual occurrences.

I've always found Morris Leisure sites fine.

We have used six AS sites down the years, and enjoyed everyone. In fact we actually joined the CC at North Ledaig because it saved us so much money! Never been to a Morris Leisure Site, although we might use one in Winter when they have special deals on.

We like them primarily because they are a bit different to standard Club Sites, which are somewhat routinely boring. Lidalia is lovely.

Its the locations that make them a valuable asset, often fill in gaps where there are no Club Sites. Seem to be a surfeit of Morris Leisure ones in Shropshire area, but then Much Wenlock has gone, and Bromyard Downs is a ticking clock!

North Ledaig is a great site, fabulous views, good location for getting out and about in area, including CalMac ferries from Oban. We took a look at the much lauded Bunree and decided we preferred NL!

Fakenham Racecourse is a lovely friendly little site, caravans park up next to running rails, you can/could walk all around the Racecourse last time we used it, and it is more centrally placed than the Club's other Sites for the best places to visit, and the best beaches in North Norfolk. Incleborough Fields was far too far East to us, and we don't like Cromer town at all. Sandringham is a hotspot for the Canine Disease that randomly kills dogs, so again off our list!

I think the idea of them is as takethedogalong says to fill gaps in the network. They should be at least be similar in quality to Club site although the ones we have used have been a bit pricy. Shame the Club can't buy Morris Leisure!!!

Having just read yet another disappointing review of an AS ( this time Grant own on Spey) it left me wondering just why the club continues with this system.

I have used over 15 AS sites in the last 6 years and have generally been pleased with all but two. One that I did not take to was The Ranch near Maybole I think. It however seems a popular site with good reviews and so it may be me. The other was Royal Vale near Holmes Chapel. The site was clean tidy, well located but a bit characterless and overpriced. So I can't really say that it did not deserve a place given it is well located.

Apart from those two there are none that I would not re-use.

I have used 3 Morris Leisure Sites. Not been over keen but I would use those again if needed. I shall be using the one at Betws Y Coed on our next trip

I'm surprised to hear of a poor review of Grantown on Spey as I thought it was a great site.

We, too, have used an AS in Dorset where they always give discount to members of either club and have the best MHSP I've ever seen.

We've used several others as well and have no complaints. People's expectations and experiences differ.

We feel similarlarly TW. We have visited it at least 4 times for a week over the last 10 years. The last time in May 2016. We have really enjoyed our stay on each occasion.

There seems to be multiple threads running on affiliated sites at the moment. I posted this on one of the others, however it also relates to this discussion.

The last time I took a short break in the UK was at a Morris leisure group site and it was of a standard the CAMC should try to achieve. It was however the most expensive site I have ever used anywhere.

We have stayed on two for about 10 days in each instance. Although I would agree they were generally equal to the CAMC, I would not say they were better. One Beth's y Coed had and inferior number of facilities in relation to a club site. When we were there the site was nowhere near full, however at a peak times with all the tent pitches filled, they would have been seriously overstretched.

As to price, I can't say I noticed much difference to the CAMC, for a service pitch which we had on each occasion. Also you get a loyalty card, so for every I think 10 nights, you can claim a free one.
