Presumably they won't have control of those ships registered outside of France. Be interesting to see the details.

An interesting announcement in the news letter. The company is fully  supporting a new law in France that will prevent ships not paying thier seamen in line with French standards from docking.  Be interesting to se how P&O react.

so how many P&O ships are we talking about, ?

Dont know or care. Investigative  it yourself if you are interested. I just thought it was a good move on behalf of the French and I dont think they or their  unions would like down and be walked  over like ours did.

Was just looking at the bigger picture, there are thousands of ships sailing the oceans of the world, cargo ships, ferries cruise liners, bulk carriers, etc, most of the crews are Phillipinos, Indians, Pakistanies, most of the vessels are registered in Panama, i wonder why, all employed because it is cheap labour, not that i approve whole heartedly of this practice, but stopping it has global implications, not just cross channel ferries,

Of course BF would support it because they seem to have a policy of only employing local folk, i believe this is historic, and of course this will push up their overheads, so getting everybody on a level playing field will no doubt enhance their business.

I doubt they’ll stop trying. It is transform or fold. The World is using cheap labour on the seas. The UK do it & so does most of the World & will continue doing it.

Me too but it is the future of the Ferries I’m interested in not costs to me. I’d rather they changed staff than stop supplying routes. I use many forms of transport & wouldn’t want to lose any or impact my holiday choices. Onwards & upwards👍🏻

It's worth remembering that BF was originally created by Bretons mainly to provide a route for their produce in the UK. It was not intended to be a money making venture although obviously its role has changed dramatically. I for one am very supportive of their policy of registering their ships in France, using properly paid French staff and obeying EU and French law. The benefits to passengers of race to the bottom wages are minute; the disadvantages considerable. Have P&O passengers noted any reduction in their fares since their scandalous behaviour? Thought not.

Bravo to Brittany Ferries I say!
