It's worth remembering that BF was originally created by Bretons mainly to provide a route for their produce in the UK. It was not intended to be a money making venture although obviously its role has changed dramatically. I for one am very supportive of their policy of registering their ships in France, using properly paid French staff and obeying EU and French law. The benefits to passengers of race to the bottom wages are minute; the disadvantages considerable. Have P&O passengers noted any reduction in their fares since their scandalous behaviour? Thought not.

Bravo to Brittany Ferries I say!

An interesting announcement in the news letter. The company is fully  supporting a new law in France that will prevent ships not paying thier seamen in line with French standards from docking.  Be interesting to se how P&O react.

I'm not sure how they will be able to achieve it AD as the implications are vast.  I can't imagine them turning away oil supertankers, flagged in Liberia and paying their seamen peanuts, when they have a desperate need for the product, or does the law only apply to cross channel ferries?

no but P&O would probably have seen an improvement to the bottom line in the profit and loss account.

yes i am in agreement with your post, however BF are in hock to the French goverment, yes some of the losses were as a direct result of Covid, but at least they have a governement willing to bail them out, not sure re P&O

"Cross-Channel operator Brittany Ferries has received a 45m-euro bailout from the French government to help it recover from losses caused by Covid-related travel restrictions.

The company, which has its UK headquarters in Plymouth, saw revenue sink by 267m euros as the pandemic slashed passenger numbers to 752,102 in 2020 from 2,498,354 in 2019.

Despite receiving 117m euros in French government-backed loans from French banks, and other regional support across the Channel, the company still needed more support."

Your post is admirable without doubt. I too had that honourable attitude until I realised over time heritage attitudes & companies soon dumped their fine ideas of legacy when the right offer came in🤷🏻‍♂️. I’m sorry but I’m one of the me, me, me folk now.

Me neither but shouldn't  be too difficult  with car ferries and that would be a good start.

Bravo from me too. I have used both companies last year (and  not proud of it) I found P&O in a different  and lower league  than BF. and  nobody  who has  spent an evening  crossing  at the table of a Bf ferry could ever doubt it.

There’s the rub, I’ve used P&O too after their attacks on hard working seafarers but I’m honest enough to admit I will continue to use them openly sans duplicity. My enjoyment of world travel will always be helped & funded by savings from any quarter👍🏻

I suspect that, if passed, it could become one of many French laws that gets tucked away in the "too difficult" drawer only to be shown the light of day once in a while when they want to be awkward.  They're good at that 😂.  Don't get caught smuggling in a ham and cheese sandwich when they're having a hissy fit! 🤣🤣

did not see any qualms about fielding a football team in the FIFA world cup along with many other countries, and look how much cheap labour was used to put on that show  yell
