Hello all Smile

Sadly circumstances mean that we are probably only going to get about 10 days away in our little caravan this year at some point in August. We live in London but my caravan is at my parents in Durham so we're looking for a CL within a couple of hours drive or Durham (We often do South West Scotland but are looking for somewhere new this time). We don't need ehu and we have 2 dogs. We really like the quiet basic sites - does anyone have any suggestions please?

We are booked into a non EHU site on the N Yorks moors in a couple of weeks - Grange Farm Bungalow.  We haven't stayed there before but it has good reviews.  The Lake District would also be feasible but we have only stayed on EHU sites there to date.

Athel, our find of last year was a wonderful private site called West Kyloe Farm. It is a mile or so from the A1 opposite the Beal turn off to Lindisfarne! in Northumberland. Gorgeous location, quiet, stunning views, clean and tidy showers and loos. You have the fabulous beaches of North Northumberland on your doorstep, Loads of castles, houses and gardens to visit, Berwick on Tweed a few miles North. Walking and cycling are a dream. Very dog friendly, off lead walk on site up farm path. I did a proper review, possibly with photos on Caravanchat, so take a look over on that website. Hope this helpsHappy

Would be really interested to hear how you get on - that is one of the ones I already had to consider.

Sounds good - I love Northumberland.

If you are happy to go on a site with EHU there is a lovely CL at Richmond Scarr Close.  The field is big and when we were there it was mowed almost like a golf course.  At the bottom of the field is an entrance to woods which was a really fab place for walking the dog. I understand that you could walk all along the river and into Richmond but we didn't do that.  The CL is really peacefull, in a quiet village with a local pub....I shall try to remember to post after we have been to North Yorks.

I'm happy to stay somewhere with ehu - we just don't use it as we don't have electrics in our van. Another one to add to the list thanks.

Another Northumbrian gem, Elf Hills Farm, which is probably under Rothbury CLs. Farm is on the Wallington NT Estate, walled, level grass area, up on moors, so a nice alternative to more coastal West Kyloe. Cragside House isn't far, Rothbury is a lovely place, and you have miles of moorland to explore. Long tarmac farm drive gives safe off lead dog walking, fenced from stock. No facilities other than EHU, but another site we return to again and again. I have left a review on their CL page at some point! Can't remember if I did one on Caravanchat!Happy

Hi Athel, there is a lovely CS (C&CC) site called The Croft, located between Durham and Seaham.

It has a small copse for dog walking and an adjacent farm track that can also be used. There are plenty of interesting coastal towns to explore with dog friendly beaches.

This is an adults only site, please see this link .

Has anyone stayed at this one - Mount Pleasant Land near Northalleton?

Thanks for the suggestion - we're not members of the C&CC and as we would only be using this one site this year I'm not sure it would be worth joining but I have added it to my book of places to remember for the future :)
