Poor weather

Im currently staying on a great little CL, Mouse Cottage in Nottington, Dorset. It's a smashing little site with great facilities. When I arrived on Monday, I was sited on one of the two hardstandings the other one being occupied also.

I feel so sorry for Emma and Craig, the owners as they have had to cancel all their bookings over Easter. Despite having plastic mesh under the grass and land drains, there has been so much snow and rain that the land is waterlogged.

Lets hope that the weather picks up soon and all our CL owners are able to continue with their bookings.

At risk of 'speaking too soon', you may wish to try our CL in Shropshire - Sunday was a lovely day - here is a picture.

Bering slightly elevated we enjoy good views and a micro-climate that usually gives better weather than the forecasts.

Hardstandings, EHU, Wi-Fi, online booking and availability calendar - £12 per night.  We have 1 pitch available from now until noon on Wednesday.

Sunday was a lovely day here too in Dorset despite the lack of micro climate!

I have often looked at your site, I have friends in Ellesmere, but believe you only allow 2 dogs per pitch so am unable to book. ☹️

You are correct - we have a limit of 2 dogs per outfit - this was imposed because our own dog (a rather 'soft' Golden Retriever) was attacked by a 'pack' of 3 'rescue dogs' from a guest's caravan.  Their dogs escaped from the windbreak that their owner had been using as a corral.  This was rather traumatic for us as a family and involved costs of veterinary treatment.

Because the dogs had formed a pack, their loyalty was to fellow pack-members and their owner could not control them once they had escaped.  We feel that by imposing a 2-dog limit, our CL is much safer for ourselves and other guests.

We like having guests with dogs and have recently bought an access-right in order to extend our existing dog-walk to a nearby public footpath.

Comes back to the old chestnut. What are the basic necessities for Cls. Hard standings this winter and now well into spring seems a basic requirement particularly for M/H. The crunch is how can a limit of 5 units make it affordable and realistic.

I remember a picture of a member sat with his arm around that soft retriever. smile

Before we installed our hardstandings, we were only open for 7 months of the year.  We are now open all-year round.  Aproximately 15% of our bookings are in the months when we would have previously been closed.
Even though we only charge £12 per night including EHU, and the hard-standings were not cheap, we consider that they have definitely paid for themselves.  As you point-out: additional motorhomes are a big factor in this - not just the extended season.

Although very, very wet, not a wash out. Thankyou to every one who came to our place to enjoy the Easter break, by the looks and sounds of it you all made the most of it. A big thank you to Al', one of our regulars, having spent half of his holiday time last year getting our old Nuffield tractor going, he spent Good Friday morning pulling vans on! See you soon. EV.
