Non members using CL sites

Read all the reviews for the site and only 2 mentioned more than 5 vans.  I take it, JJ that  you stayed but didn't write a review or report the site to the CC?

It will become more common if members don't report it to the CC.

The club could assist CL owners to address this issue by allowing CL Owners to sell non-members who turn up unexpectedly a Membership Package.  

This is common practice both on the Club Sites and for rival clubs, but the CC has yet to adopt a policy.

Have seen first hand members turned away because the site was full of members and non-members.

I didn't realise this was the case. As you say you can certainly join at any C&CC CS (assuming they even ask if you are a member).

My ONLY reason for joining CC would be if I wanted to stay on a CL.  I would simply have booked/turned up assuming I could join on the spot. So thanks for the warning!

...Have cl owners contacted the club about having joining packs? caravan dealers seem to have them? How would it be procesed on a cl?

Not sure how an individual camper knows if someone is a member or not without asking them. Asking fellow campers if they are a member isn't something that would enter my head to be honest.

More than 5 vans on site is a different matter, they tend to be big white things that you can easily see. Depending on circumstances, they need to be reported to the club before someone reports them to the local planning dept.

Not everyone in planning departments are keen on caravans (for some reason) and it would make their day to have an opportunity to close a site down.

Problem could be solved if every CL owner asked to see the membership card (which is very rare) and caravanners without were charged a, say, £5 per night surcharge. Some may then drive off but I suspect the majority couldn't be bothered and would pay up. Wouldn't take many nights to make up the joining fee.

Never been asked for my membership card.Overcrowdng is becoming more prevelant and no chance of the local auth having any issue with it. In fact the owners use the overcrowding issue to support a planning application for going commercial.

Depends where you live.

Where I live (very close to a national park) the local planning dept is constantly knocking back camp site applications. It's reported in the local newspaper almost weekly.They don't even allow extra pitches or longer seasons to sites with existing planning permission.

It wouldn't take more than a photo of someone breaking the exemption certificate conditions to bring about an attempt to close the site. Of that, in my area at least, I am almost certain.

That's why I would say pass it to the CC to deal with first.but unless reported, then the CC cannot act.
