Just noticed in 'CL Sites Updates' CC Magazine Sept issue, that New CL,s number 17 Happy and Closurers number 4, an increase of 13.Surprised.  Long may this trend continue as there is a lot of ground to be made up on closures over the past years.

Manoravon, Ian, has an acre to spare and no hook-ups so why the requirement to leave by 12.

Also, Birch Hill has two acres so why do we have to leave so early.  Just unplug the lead to leave it available.

The mid-day changeover is so that we have no more than 5 vans on site at any one time.  Please don't ask us to break the law.

By asking leavers to depart on time, it also means that new arrivals have a better choice of pitch.

We like to be accommodating:

- If we are quiet (less than 5 vans), we do allow guests to stay beyond mid-day at no extra charge.

- If we expect to be full, but someone wants to stay beyond mid-day, we give them the option of packing-up and moving their caravan off the CL and onto a parking area.

Kiwi Dave, it seems that you are a very hard person to please judging by your comments on various CL threadsUndecided

To make it easier for us to understand you, could you please define what your idea of arrival and departure times should be?.....Cool

This person is also active on the New Cl Sites post making similar comments on 2 cl's that are over two years old.

I am another of an increasing number of members that now  only use CL's or small commercial sites. Club sites are far too regimented and expensive.  By small sites I mean 10-20 vans.

CL's are certainly upping their game, the majority now seem to offer EHU's and I know of some with water supplies close to each pitching area.  I stayed on one recently where on arrival we were welcomed with a tray of Tea, coffee & biscuits. The owner explained that she realised that many of her "guests" had travelled some distance and would value a cuppa before having to set up etc!

No thats what I call "Above & Beyond".

Wow. Liking that.

We have just stayed on a farm Cl which was excellent [Chessons Farm Wadhurst] and the owner told us that by the beginning of last year they were desperate. They had run the site for thirty years and were getting less and less bookings so it wasn't worth staying open. They mentioned it to their local caravan dealer last year who told them it was because they didn't have electrics, and although they didn't really believe it would make any difference they took a chance and put them in. In the first two months after that they took more bookings than the whole of the previous season. This year she just can't believe how busy it has been. I wasn't surprised as even if a site is on the spot of where we want to be I don't even look at it if it hasn't electrics.

LTC, Quite an encouraging post to cl owners who are under used. I just wonder if the site inspector offered any advice.

Yes, there will always be caravanners who want just the basics but it all comes down to supply and demand. Every new caravan that goes out of the gate has electric. That must tell people something.

It would be interesting at the end of the year to look at cl closures and note how many were just basic.

I note on here, cl's like, Chosely Grange, Birch Hill Farm and Skybarn Farm are very active on the forum and this no doubt highlights and sells their cl. It would be nice to see others following suit then numbers would rise even further.

We stayed on a superb CL (Field Head Farm) for the first weekend of the recent half term.EHU, HardStandings, honesty box for ice cream and other forgotten items. The owners were very pleased as it was beyond their expectations of how busy it is year round. When they were looking to set up the CC Inspector advised just water and somewhere to chuck the bucket contents.

Those owners also put us in touch with a former CL that has expanded when they couldn't accomodate us due to being fully booked. We rightly supported the CL on our next visit to the area, and will contniue to do so.

This last weekend we stayed on a CL (Hayfields) in Bristol, no need to not visit Bristol if Baltic Wharf is full, although it isn't always full despite what the online booking system says Winking  This CL had missed the last Handbook entry date when established and has not been that busy. In discussion with the owner suggested he comes on CT and 'advertises', joins in discussions etc. I undertook to write a review both here on CT and UKcampsites.co.uk , done.

Both of these CL's have EHU, a loo and are near places to visit.

That's interesting Keefy. We vetoed BW because of limited dog walking. Could you say if Hayfields would be OK for dogs, only need something for first thing in morning and last thing at night, as we would be off site walking in day. I will look up the CL as well.Happy

We were attending a Pearl Wedding anniversary do, of friends who are dog owners, epic CL users and didnt know the CL was there despite living around the corner. Hayfields CL is in a 'meadow' within the grounds of Cleve RFC. They stayed one night in their caravan. Out of rugby season the grounds are not used.
