Bristol Ballon Fiesta - recommendations?

Hi

Thinking about visiting the Bristol balloon festival next year. Has anyone been and stayed nearby? Ideally looking for a CL within easy reach. Not bothered about facilities except for EHU. Must be easy access as I get very nervous down long narrow country lanes.

Thanks all.

The best way to see it is with the Avon Centre rally, you don't have to be a centre member to join in.  The rally takes place alongside the Balloon Fiesta itself. Book early as it's very popular.

Hayfields CL in Mangotsfield just off the ring road, follow signs to Cleve RFC.

Neil, the manager mentioned using the adjacent rugby fields for rallies at Baloon Festival time, when we were there last weekend.

Baltic Warfe ain't going to happen realistically.  Booked up all the time.

Brue, I have never been to a rally. Did you go last year and was it just a field with a tap or were there other facilities like EHU?

Also, what do rallies cost typically?

thanks

Give Baltic wharf a call anyway, yes its probably booked up, but they do get cancellations and you might be lucky enough to phone just after one.

But the recommendation to check with the Avon Centre is a very good one, do try that. - Its well worth it.  I live in North Bristol & see it every year.

We went to the 2014 rally, it's a big rally on school playing fields right next to Ashton Court where the Fiesta is held. Sorry no ehu but water and waste available, I can't remember the price but it wasn't expensive and entry to the fiesta is free and a short stroll away. It was our first rally and we really enjoyed it. The balloons fly over the rally site, quite spectacular.

There is a CL out at Aust just a short drive from west Bristol but the Fiesta is so popular that you might find yourself in traffic jams. The balloon event is also weather dependent, worth bearing in mind. Hope this helps. Smile

We heard and read Baltic Wharf is impossible to get into, as is Chatsworth during school summer holidays. Been at both this year. BW booked on the Sunday before arriving the following Friday. Booked for Baltic Wharf in February half term taking advantage of the 3 month notice period and apparent removal from Frenzy Day. At one time the earth was flat, apparently Tongue Out

Check when the BW bookings for the festival period become available, currently beyond March is not visible online. Or believe the hype put out and not try, maybe that's what others rely on Tongue Out

On the CC booking day frenzy I've never managed to get Baltic Wharf for the balloon fiesta. As it's a good walk to Ashton Court and the buses often get stuck in queues the rally is a much easier idea. A lot of my family live in Bristol and when the traffic gets stuck it really gets stuck!

Ok. Thank you one and all.  OH will not want the rally if there is no electric so I will try the CL mentioned by Keefy and also give Baltic Warfe a go but not holding my breath on that option.  Don't fancy getting stuck in traffic so will see what my options are. At the end of the day if I cant get a suitable location I will give it a miss...not the end of the world.

Good to get some valuable feedback though.

Thanks a lot.
