Adults Only CLs Annoyance..

Hi All, Apoligies if this has been raised before but couldn't find any previous threads on the topic..

Whilst carrying out my usual serch for the perfect CL in the Perfect location etc, one thing stuck me that hasn't jumped out at me before  -  The large number of CL's that seem to be "Adults Only".

We are the usual family ( 2 Adults, 2 kids and a dog ) and find it annoying that when I find the "perfect" CL, I look down the listing and discover the dreaded adults only logo!

Now I realise that its all down to the owners discretion and fully respect that - but we enjoy the smaller "non commercial" sites as much as our fellow CL users and aren't keen on paying the hiked club site fees.

It just seems that the CL lifestyle isn't pitched towards the family unit..  We all love the club and pay our fees but if the increasing trend for Adults only increases then we'll have to re-think the membership fees.

As a side note - We've discovered DA camping and rallying over the past few years and while its great, we just love the seclusion that CL's bring

Many Thanks,

Ian - "Still searching!"

All of these potential hazard issues have to be managed for adult users as well as children and even if there's such minimal public access as a public footpath crossing the land. They have to be managed for people living and working on site.

It's market forces that drives the AO decision I maintain.  There is a demand for AO CLs so the demand will be met.  The review section contains quite a few wishes that certain sites and CLs were AO.

I don't object to AO CLs or sites.  My only issue is that the CC which I pay a subscription to uses a tiny portion of my money to help sites get started which exclude me and other family users.  I object to Adult only sites being listed as ASs too.  I joined the CC when my kids were young and was rather surprised to find that despite the inclusive family friendly wording of the CC there were in fact many (at the time) listed locations that I could not use purely because I travel with my children.

I was on a CL last year and had a good chat with the owner as it's my preference for AO. He said, "I'm fed up with members continually complaining about other members brats running around like wild animals and refusing to keep them in check, since I became an AO site I've never looked back the aggro stopped immediately." His words.

Unfortunately it's the same old story some unruly children spoil it for others, the well behaved children (few and far between) are bound to be tarred with the same brush.

Please can you identify this CL as I will never stay anywhere that thinks it's acceptable to call children brats

I'd hate to give them my business in error and I'd like to share it with my caravanning friends so they don't either

As  I love this CL for many reasons and one of my favourites I remain silent.

No problem - I'll carry on blacklisting all AO CLs in any case.

JayEss not everyone, even some younger members caravans with kids, yet they pay the membership fee as well. All the main sites are family orientated, yet you are complaining that your subscription is used to promote a few AO CL's and affiliated sites, most of which I think just have AO areas. We have only stayed on an AO area in an affiliated site once, and that was because the site was in an area we wanted to visit. At the end of the day it is a club with a wide variety of membership.

Steve - people without kids can go to every site that is listed.

There are at least two fully AO sites that I can think of that are listed as ASs

There are ways of putting families off using a site without going AO.

The private sector is full of AO sites.  I've used them in the past and will use them in the future. I won't use a AO CL for the reasons I've already said.  My views on whether the Club should promote AO will not change.

The C&CC doesn't appear to have an option to search for AO sites and there's nothing in their guide to suggest that it's an option for someone setting up as CS.  An interesting difference

I think you are missing the point, some people, not us, would prefer to holiday without kids being present, enjoying themselves as kids do. I see nothing wrong in that or in the CC promoting such sites. As to ways of putting them off, I would find that thought far more objectionable than an openly declared AO site.
