Name change

Very surprised about the club name change as the first I became aware of it was when I received my renewal notice which I almost binned without reading as I thought it was junk mail. The renewal notice made no reference to the name change and seemed to assume I knew all about it

If a notification of this event was sent out then I didn't receive it and any media notification (if there was one) obviously completely passed me by.

I definitely think there was a bit of lack of communication by the committee in this respect.

PS ... I have no problem with the new title but I bet it will still be called The Caravan Club by the members anyway.

Like tigerfish it will always be the Caravan Club for me. I'm willing to bet that even some of the advocates of it being the 'Caravan and Motorhome Club' abbreviate the name to 'Caravan Club' when having a conversation.

For me, though, it is not the change of name it is the cost of the whole exercise, money that could and should have been spent on the sites themselves. The excuse that the cost, (whatever astronomical figure this turns out to be), was 'budgeted for' is pure hogwash. It could have been budgeted for site improvements but it wasn't. It could have been budgeted for getting the website and forum in some sort of decent workable order but it wasn't. Instead it was spent on new ineffectual signage and a name change that certainly wasn't needed.

I think we should campaign for a return to the original name it is more generic and inclusive for all types of caravan outfits.  At least a consultation with the members who own the club would be polite.

I did not realise that my £49 per year gave me ownership of the club. I was under the impression that it just gave me access to the club services, in the same way that gym or book club membership works. Every day, as they say, is a school day.

With my newly discovered membership rights, I shall vote to retain the new name and logo.

I rang the club today to query my van insurance and I'm sure I heard a recorded massage say "The Caravan and Motorhome Club is the trading name of The Caravan Club"😳

Yes, you would. Limited companies very often trade under a different name. It's no big deal.

Thanks TW . The point I was trying to make in my usual crack handed way was they appear to have only changed one name and not the otherπŸ€“

I like the new name, It's more inclusive.   Also it will be really easy to alter it to "The Campervan and Motorhome Club"  When caravans eventually die out in a few years time.

wink

I can't follow your logic, Pageno. The Caravan Club Ltd is a legal entity in its own right. It trades as CAMC. Although it's not impossible to change the name of the Limited Company, it's nowhere near as simple as changing a trading name. Why would they want to change the Company name when only the trading name is in common use? I'd have been more surprised if they changed the official company registration.
