Name change

Very surprised about the club name change as the first I became aware of it was when I received my renewal notice which I almost binned without reading as I thought it was junk mail. The renewal notice made no reference to the name change and seemed to assume I knew all about it

If a notification of this event was sent out then I didn't receive it and any media notification (if there was one) obviously completely passed me by.

I definitely think there was a bit of lack of communication by the committee in this respect.

PS ... I have no problem with the new title but I bet it will still be called The Caravan Club by the members anyway.

A thought struck me while having dinner tonight. Perhaps the reason for the change of name is that following the fiasco of COTY the Chairman has swapped his caravan for Motorhome......

I think we should campaign for a return to the original name it is more generic and inclusive for all types of caravan outfits.  At least a consultation with the members who own the club would be polite.

Within five years we will see another name change, perhaps done more economically this time, to The Electric Motorhome Club.  EMC has a nice "ring" to it . . . . . .

I never accepted the new name anyway. I joined the Caravan Club and will never refer to it as anything else!

I think we should just get on with booking our holidays ,it's only a name for gods sake . There are lots of businesses that have changed their name and we still deal with them

I joined Midland bank years ago that is now known as HSBC ,did I take my money out and go elsewhere? ,No ,I still bank there and the same people work there ,it's just a name yell

Agreed, Husky.

Whether or not my membership fee should have been used to fund the change, I sure don't want it used to pay for a U turn. Time to leave it be.

Indeed it is only a name - but a name that will cost a substantial amount of money to change. For what purpose? All of us were perfectly aware that the club already embraced motorhome users,

The club management have refused to address (or avoided the question) of the anticipated costs of this change. I believe that the management are competent professionals so surely there would be a budget set to outline anticipated costs and increased income? But they refuse this information - telling us that the figures will be in next year's accounts. Personally I am doubtful.

By the way, I read the LinkedIn (however you spell it !!) profile of our esteemed Marketing Director, who I would assume played a large (the major ?) part in the changes. Does he also walk on water? !!

But surely this is just a head in the sand attitude? Put aside for one moment the cost or the new colours I think most reasonable members would accept that the change of name is more inclusive. Clearly the Club management came to the perfectly sensible conclusion that continuing with the use of just "caravan" in the Club name was likely to alienate motorhomers. They also realised that the one element of our hobby that was growing was the ownership of motorhomes whilst caravanning is at best static and perhaps the sense that it will start to reduce in number. Many motorhomers, like myself, have changed from being a caravanner. However many motorhomers have come straight into the hobby without a background of being caravan owners. Why would they think about joining something called the Caravan Club. It is in all our interests that our Club continues to grow and the minor change in name  is a small price to pay in order to help protect the Club for the future.

I agree entirely David.  Also, it has been reported that there has been a membership increase since the change of name, and that this increase has been identified as motorhomers joining the Club.

It was not the name change that I found annoying. It was all the meaningless hog wash and out of tune fanfare that accompanied this bright new world. That and the abysmal signage also I suppose but mainly the nonsensical hype that appears to be without substance.
