Hi

I have a 2.0 TGI with a DSG gearbox, towing a van with an MTPLM of 1450kg. Mine is the R Line, so has firmer suspension than most Tigs. I think it tows fine, manages about 26mpg when towing. As a 2.0 it tows fine, but does lack a little top end power when overtaking with the van on. No issues with towing, but as with almost all cars, you do know the van is behind you. I had a Touareg before, towing a TA of about 1800kg. That would accelerate hard even going uphill at 60 with the van, but that's the difference between 3.0 and 2.0. I prefer the Tig overall, certainly when solo.

G Cherokee, does your post suggest you are unhappy with the car ?

Hi, Onepig,

It is time to change the good old Jeep for something newer.

On a recent jaunt to Woolacombe it let me down. And I have lost my confidence in its reliability, it's a sad day because I,ve loved owning the Jeep.

But the parts are stupidly expensive, and you always have to wait for them to come from Chrysler.

So I'm trying to find a decent 4x4 to replace it.

Volkswagen Tiguan

Honda CR V

And today I went to see a Mazda CX7. And that is a nice motor.

Going back to subject, how does the auto compare to the manual??

Hi we have a 2012 2ltr TDI 4 motion pulls our Cosmos 564 MTPLM 1350 like a dream I have to be careful sometimes as I can quite easily forget the van is behind me. As it's a 4 motion you lose a little on your fuel consumption but can still average about 27 mpg. Driven sensibley I can get 50+ solo. Would recommend

.

Ok, so on another slant to the conversation, I know there is a lot of folk that tow with a manual (and i dont want to start another discussion on auto v manual preference).

Lets say you own a 5 year old manual tow car, who has had to have the clutch replaced since ownership?

And what vehicle was it? I'm trying to get a feel for an idea of what I expect from changing to a manual. There are obvious pros and cons with either.

Bear in mind that a DSG auto has not one, but two clutch plates

Can't think of any cons for an auto especially for towing, a proper auto that is

Agree with all the positive posts above.  I tow a Ranger at 1326kgs with my 2014 DSG 140 hp Tig.  Get about 30 mpg towing and with the Cruise Control I only have to remember to steer and break!  I have done 40K in it and 20k of it is towing all over Europe over Alps etc; never missed a beat.  If you get one you will not be disappointed.
