Can't think of any cons for an auto especially for towing, a proper auto that is

Posted on 06/08/2017 20:11

Heaver mpg

Higher vehicle licence fund

More expensive to buy

To name a few. I have driven a proper auto for 7 years, I know the advantages, you can't a more "proper" auto, than a 2 ton 4x4 Jeep!

As I said in a previous post, I do not want to get into a "my auto is better than your manual" argumemts.

Agree with all the positive posts above.  I tow a Ranger at 1326kgs with my 2014 DSG 140 hp Tig.  Get about 30 mpg towing and with the Cruise Control I only have to remember to steer and break!  I have done 40K in it and 20k of it is towing all over Europe over Alps etc; never missed a beat.  If you get one you will not be disappointed.

Thank you Comeyras,

That's the kind of response I was looking for.

"Anyone towing with a Tiguan 2.0 TDI?

What are your thoughts?

Our van has a mptlm of 1433kgs"

Forgive me, I could have sworn you were asking for an opinion on the Tiguan 2.0 TDI Manual and DSG!

Both my Touareg  and Tig were autos, and I have had no issues with towing. Personally I much prefer autos, both for solo and towing. Life is just easier.

Think if mpg was that poor (23mpg)  I would get it remapped with an economy chip.  Recent trip to the highlands got a return of just under 33mpg on my re-chipped CRV

I'd be very pleased with 23mpg when towing cool
