Hi Simpleton thanks for your reply and I am interested in what you think of the XC60 too. We have recently bought a D5 XC60 SE Lux and like it very much but we find it so so uncomfartable towing with a rough pitching ride that we are considering changing again to a XC70. We have towed for a number of years with a V70 Volvo and always had a very smooth comfortable ride when towing so we have tried towing with an XC70 and it is much more like the V70 was and certainly a lot more of a smooth ride than the XC60. Shame really because I very much like the XC60 but load the caravan in different ways with different noseweight etc and we just can not get on with it.

Ahh, I remember the post you made a while back regarding the ride on your XC60 whilst towing.
My XC60 was pretty poor on the factory fit Pirelli tyres but a change to Nokians (a respected brand in Finland, less well known here...) has improved things considerably.
Overall my XC60 is OK, nothing more. It appears to be more at home towing than solo to be honest, the ride isn`t great solo where the weight of the van (Coachman Amara with a max weight of 1450) calms everything down a bit.
Like I said I preferred the XC70 when I tried one but the deal on the XC60 was financially too attractive to ignore.
I`ll not be having another XC60 though....
I`d definately try an XC70 and see how you get on.

Hi Simpleton855,
Thanks for your comments. We have already tried towing with an XC70 and it was far more pleasant a ride than the XC60 so the XC60 is going back in favour of the XC70. I do like the XC60 but contrary to yours ours is much worse towing that solo yet i have read many posts of how good a tow car they are but it is not working for me.

We tow a Bessacarr 495 with the XC70, before that it was V70, before that going back many years, always a Volvo. So I guess we're just a bit biased. The XC70 is probably the best tow car we've had. Just as a point of interest out daughter and husband have our last V70 that's just clocked 300,000k and still sweet.

We tow a Bailed Madrid with a 2012 XC70 auto and it is excellent. Plenty of power for overtaking and very stable. Our previous tug was a series 2 Discovery but when we changed and tried an XC60, we preferred the ride comfort of the XC70. An excellent towcar.

300.000 miles, wow did you do anything in particular to obtain the long life. I was sorry to see my V70 go especially has it had only 68,000 miles on the clock but it did not seem quite in control of the new van even though the weighbridge weight said it should have been ok.

OH (and SIL) always change oil & filters at 6000 regardless of what the book says! He says clean oil, clean air and clean fuel = happy engine.
The V70 is towing a 2008 Swift Challenger 4 berth and we towed the Bessacarr with it fine. Sorry to hear you had to loose your V70.
