We tow a Bessacarr 495 with the XC70, before that it was V70, before that going back many years, always a Volvo. So I guess we're just a bit biased. The XC70 is probably the best tow car we've had. Just as a point of interest out daughter and husband have our last V70 that's just clocked 300,000k and still sweet.
300.000 miles, wow did you do anything in particular to obtain the long life. I was sorry to see my V70 go especially has it had only 68,000 miles on the clock but it did not seem quite in control of the new van even though the weighbridge weight said it should have been ok.
OH (and SIL) always change oil & filters at 6000 regardless of what the book says! He says clean oil, clean air and clean fuel = happy engine.
The V70 is towing a 2008 Swift Challenger 4 berth and we towed the Bessacarr with it fine. Sorry to hear you had to loose your V70.
Vanbirds68 Hi,
Our V70 towed a swift four berth of 1500kg max and towed fine but it did not seem quite right with our new van a coachman at 1615kg max and the V70 kerbweight from the weighbridge was 1820kg but on paper it was rated at 1620kg, I went wth the weighbridge weight but it felt to skittish hence the change.

Hello DavidN
Yes we have an XC70 D5 Auto. Its the 215bhp. There is a Polestar upgrade that puts the power up to 230bhp and torque up from 440nm to 470nm(354ft lb in old money)
Smoothest most balanced towcar I've had. I have standard suspension but they say the Nivomat self levelling is better still but expensive to replace when worn.
1500kg single axle van is towed. Pulls like a train.
Only has 85kg towbar weight. I run at 80kg.
The autobox is sublime but I would advise changing the transmission oil. Volvo say it's filled for life but if you delve into the user manual, towing comes under arduous conditions.
For note the tyres it came with were 101V rated Conti's. Awful towing experience transformed by fitting the factory fit 97V rated Pirelli tyres which I've just replaced having got 30k miles out of.
The XC70 is a sought after car now it is no longer made. The V60 Cross Country is its replacement.
