Infrared heating

Hi, Being unable to go abroad as usual this year, like many, one thing that we missed was being able to sit out on warm evenings something that, even in our good spells of weather, is not so enticing in the UK.

It would be great to have a bit of heating to enable us to do so in comfort and have narrowed it down to the infrared type seen in many commercial premises to encourage the use of outside space-many of the hits we had made reference to Covid and the advantages of being outside-and after thinking it would likely be a wall mounted heater have come across some freestanding ones at Screwfix.

One advantage would be being able to use in the awning should we wish to and I wondered if anyone else has infrared heaters either at home or for use when camping and what the experience hs been?

Many thanks.

Some years ago I bought an awning heating kit that consisted of the pipework and fittings to create a tee  in the vans blown air system and direct it out into the awning though a flap with a valve  incorporated. Dont know why I bought it,  never got round to fitting it and eventually sold it on ebay. Anyone with this kit can heat the awning safe in the  knowledge they wont be found out and castigated on CTwink

This system is fitted as standard in our Knaus😀. Not used it yet, though.

We had that system on a Fleetwood c/van it worked fine  ,in todays vans it can be fitted but most have the heater fitted on the offside (gas vent ?)which would mean quite a run to the nearside

The position of the boiler is irrelevant. They are intended for use on blown air heating only & just divert heat from the caravan into your awning

If you thought about your comment? i think you will find the majority of  "boilers" these days do b oth jobs and the as the outlet for the gas exhaust fumes is now it seems on the off side away form exhausting into anyone useing an awning    ,to get the hot blown air to mid way  awning side would need a long  pipe without it running under the LV   as most manufactuers run the shortest route to have a more efficient system

I haven't had blown air for quite a while but it did run under nearside bunk and also on some baileys that we looked at a few years ago.

Is it an age thing, or is it evolution? Being cold I mean......🤔

Probably an age thing, although in my case an arthritic thing. If it is below 65 I definitely will be wearing a thermal vest. However we don't have an awning these days.

The desire for an awning heater is natures way of telling you to retire to the inside of your van.
