Hi,

Been looking for an automatic satellite dish, roof mounted (for ease). Selfsat Snipe V2 with twin LNB seems to show up as best value and quality for money. Has anyone any advice or suggestions with this or recommend another?. Im fairly new to caravanning and my van is pitched in the north east of scotland seasonally so wont matter about range outwith UK. All advice etc. appreciated.

Cheers,

Marc

I'd rather have a permanant fixture on the roof, do it right and thats it. I understand and appreciate what your saying, but having a pole with a dish at the front of the van would get my OCD going.. i like to keep everything looking clean as possible.

Sounds as though a 65cm Maxview crank up sytem would meet your needs, less than half the price of a fully automatic system and it would fit very neatly on your roof.

We have an Oyster system and it works really well.

glad to hear that, we are having one of these fitted at the end of the year, think its an 85cm with autoskew.

mine happens to be a Teleco 85 twin LNB, but very similar in design and operation, they are very easy to use and have a terrific range for uk channels, just about down to the south coast of France...the auto-skew will help squeeze a bit more range out of the dish....nice one.

No I have a Trac Vision R4 twin LNB automatic system but I have seen the Max view in use. Looks a neat job and saves storing and messing about with a tripod and external dish otherwise it is little different. It will have the same disadvantages of any roof mounted job in that line of site will be required but on the other hand as you should be able to see the TV set as you align the dish, it should be easier to lock onto the satellite.

Write your comments here...dont know if its auto skew or even what that means however I do know all I have to do is turn the TV on, the disk automatiacally pops up and swivels round to pick up the satelite and within 2 minutes (less second time you turn on in the same position) you are wathcing crystal clear TV.  The TV is an Avtex so top quality and the gubbins that operates the system is in a top cupboard that you dont even notice.  Our is the 65cm version so I guess its not going to be so good abroad but generally we only go away in Summer to Europe and never watch TV apart from when there is world cup or Euros on.

It came with the van as standard and before I would have said its not worth the moeny however now I think it would be on our list of must have's.....

You do have to watch where you pitch and try to get clear sky to the south ish but so far we have not had issues.

husky, these semi-automatic or 'through the roof' manual systems are very good value (you do the tuning) and fairly easy to set up, especially for someone who has used a manual system before...

cranking up the dish height first, makes it easy then the swing the dish around to locate the signal....no probs...

Michael, the skew angle is a form of fine tuning which compensates for your movement around locations in the van.

just gives a better chance of tuning in when on the fringes of a signal area.

Thanks BB that must be the final to-ing and fro-ing of the dish once it locks on.

Had a look at all these options mentioned, thanks for advise all. Made choosing alot harder now.. as for the static caravan part and paying 3x money. That dosent come into it im not fussed about spending a grand/1500 or so for a decent bit of kit, rather do it right first time. Cheers all
