Apologies if wrong section- mod, please feel free to move :)

So we pick up our new motorhome in 2 weeks and I'm about to sort out insurance. We put it in my name as I have 9 year plus NCD on my car, husband has less. I think I have just realised that NCD can only apply to one car rather than multiple so does this mean I effectively have to start from scratch with zero no clams for my M/H?

I've tried the CC insurance but want to shop around also and see if there are better deals  - not just cost but the whole shabang - I have a leaflet for Safeguard but any of you seasoned motorhomers out there that can help suggest would also be a godsend. The rig is new (2016) so this also may be a factor for replacments with policies if there does happen to be a major issue

Thanks in advance

Try Caravan Guard, they give an introductory 1 years NCD, plus other small discounts for CC membership and alarms. I found they were the cheapest but it depends where u live etc.

Hi

As always invaluable advice - tried Safeguard but since my wonderful husband "clipped" - his words not mine - my car on the our side wall in Feb 2015 my NCD mirror is now not valid :( He says clipped -I say hit - it's all semantics of course Sealed). That said, Safeguard transferred me to their sister company "Scenic" and they have easily come out as the cheapest.

I get UK and European  breakdown with my rig for two years  - plus we are only travelling in UK in the first year...

I'll definitely try Caravan Guard though as my final quote.

The prices so far have varied from "no way" to £349!

The car is insured in my name and the MH in the wifes name.

So NCD is never a problem and when offers justify it we change companies if the current company doesn't match other offers.

Current MH insurance is awaiting renewal....£220 last year and they want £237 this year????

Im also looking for insurance and the CC are quoting £80 a year more than comforts top package with european breakdown cover included.

I take it CC insurance does not come with breakdown cover, apologies if it does and im being blind not seeing this.

So question time, what does the CC have that comfort doesnt?

Just got a quote from Comfort of £430 inc recovery.

My CC cover has no Recovery but we do have AA car insurance and recovery elsewhere!

So, about the same all in!

Wow! don't the quotes vary wildly!!

I've tried Comfort, Safeguard, Scenic, CC, Adrian Flux (very bored advisor who had zero interest in the quote - bearing in mind this is my first motorhome and when she asked the question "how many seats?" and I asked "did she mean belted or any seats" - she replied, "belted obviously!" and when we got to "how many doors" she followed it on by , "you know the ones you go in and out of" - cheeky moo") caravanguard and saga...phew! I could repeat the details in my sleep. I also made sure I had like for like on each quote. Finally decided to go with Scenic who quoted £295 so very happy especially as my first quote was nearly £800!!
