We are thinking of changing our Coachman 2018 460 VIP for a 2020 Swift 480 Elegance as we have only had Coachman caravans in the past we would appreciate any advice or comments about this change.

To be honest very little to choose between them in terms of any feature. Same chassis, similar size, comparable layouts, both have good build quality and virtually identical heating and appliances. Comes down to cushion color choice I am afraid.

I noticed that the Swift comes with a life time water ingress warranty so that's a plus.

Must say we're quite content with our VIP 460. But if you are having problems best get rid before the warranty expires and it starts costing you serious money.

Can't help with experience of the Elegance but the above mentioned warranty might sway you.

We are still looking but it would seem that the quality of vans from continental manufacturers is better than those from the UK.  Of course the layouts tend to be different and perhaps not always to British tastes.

Have to agree with AD. During over 50 years of Caravanning we’ve had numerous Uk ‘vans, most from new and after only a few years they’ve started to leak or rot. In 2009 we bought a new Fendt which we still have and spend between approx 150 nights a year in. To date we’ve had no problems at all with the caravan. A couple of hiccups with the Installed Thetford products but they’ve been easily fixed. The German ‘vans will be a little more expensive and perhaps a little heavier but even a second hand one will last you a long trouble free time. Its a great pity we don’t appear to be able to make comparable ‘vans in the UK.

I wouldn’t say that coachman have good build quality these days. And I would agree with the op about numerous problems with a VIP. I have a 2017:model and sick to death of various faults. If you read the Coachman owners Facebook page there a lot of people moaning about faults with their coachman caravans. And the VIP’s seem the be the worse.
